Chris Davis' 'Kick Six' Auburn helmet sells for more than $47K at auction

The helmet Auburn kick returner Chris Davis wore during the infamous Kick Six against Alabama last year reportedly sold at auction for $47,190, according to ESPN.

Ken Goldin, the owner of GoldinAuctions.com, confirmed an Auburn fan won the auction, but didn’t reveal a name.

Chris Davis' Kick Six helmet sold at auction. (Goldin Auctions) "This helmet, from one of the most historic and notable plays in college football goes down as one of the highest-priced pieces of collegiate sports memorabilia ever sold, and certainly the most valuable that has been auctioned from a player or event that occurred within the past 20 years," Goldin told ESPN.

During last year’s Iron Bowl, Davis fielded a missed 57-yard field goal and returned it 109 yards for the game-winning touchdown as time expired. The win not only gave the Tigers a win over their rival, it also solidified a spot in the SEC title game.

Harris, who autographed the helmet, also wore it in the SEC Championship and the BCS National Championship.

According to ESPN, Davis’ helmet appears to be the highest-selling helmet ever at auction. Earlier this year, an Archie Griffin game-used Ohio State helmet from his 1974 and 1975 Heisman-winning season sold for $28,680.
