Mike Leach says WSU has no injuries, though lineman on crutches proves otherwise
As Mike Leach's Washington State Cougars get ready to play Rutgers on Thursday, Leach says his team is 100 percent healthy.
"Amazingly, over two years and a half years, we've been 100 percent healthy," Leach said Tuesday via WazzuWatch.com. "Our team is 100 percent healthy and there hasn't been as much as a hangnail in two and half years. So anything that has to do with health or injury, there's no excuses to hide behind here, because this team and every team we've had is healthy as can be."
If you know anything about football and have a working bovine manure detector, you know that's false. Need proof? Well, here's Leach's Sunday media availabilty. As astutely pointed out by NJ.com, at just after the two-minute mark, a player walks by on crutches.
Yes, college football coaches can be misleading about injuries. And depth charts. And starting quarterbacks. And sometimes it happens with other things too.
The question that led to Leach's quote about injuries was about Gabe Marks. Washington State's leading returning receiver, and obviously a focal point of the Cougars' offense. Marks only recently returned to practice because of an injury and could possibly redshirt. Leach clearly doesn't want to reveal his team's plans for Marks.
Does it ultimately benefit anything? Who knows. Lots of coaches obviously think so, given how common platitudes, cliches and misdirections are.

QB Teddy Bridgewater takes out full-page ad thanking Louisville fans
Former Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater might be gone to the NFL, but he hasn’t forgotten the team and the fans that helped him get there.
On Tuesday, Bridgewater took out a full-page ad in the Louisville student newspaper, The Cardinal News, thanking the fans and wishing Louisville luck on the upcoming season.
Look at the message from Teddy Bridgewater on the back of the @TheCardinalNews newspaper! How awesome! #ThanksTeddy http://ift.tt/1t9UBqp
— K a y ℓ a (@kay_antoinette) August 26, 2014
Here’s the text of the ad:
“Thank you Louisvilel Cardinals family and community for the love you showed me over the years. Best of luck to the 2014 team and beyond. Louisville first- Cards forever.”
This is a classy gesture by Bridgewater. Not sure how many former quarterbacks would take out a full-page ad thanking their former fan base and team, but it’s clear Bridgewater’s time at Louisville meant a lot to him and he wanted to show it.

Texas Tech QB Davis Webb took his offensive line out for $275 worth of barbecue
Texas Tech QB Davis Webb wanted to treat his offensive linemen. Linemen like food and barbecue is popular in Texas, so the solution was a barbecue meal.
“The biggest thing, I guess for those guys is I bought them a $275 meal at Rudy’s last week, and I think they feel a lot more comfortable with me too,” Webb said Monday via the Dallas Morning News.
Webb said his grandfather, who played baseball and football at Baylor, always said to take care of your pl;ayers. So he followed his advice and said he got a tangible result right away.
“I felt like the next day they practiced a lot harder,” Webb said. ”So I wonder if I need to do that every week.”
If Webb did that, he should probably go ask the Texas Tech athletic center to start cooking up some barbecue for him. $275 a week is a big hit for a lot of working folks, let alone a college kid barred by the NCAA from making money off his likeness.
The gesture comes as Webb enters 2014 as Tech's undisputed starter. Last year, he didn't start the season as the Red Raiders' QB, but after an impressive performance in the Holiday Bowl (and the departure of Baker Mayfield and Michael Brewer), the starting job is his.
His offensive line, is more comfortable with him too. How can you not be with a guy that buys you barbecue?
"Davis is great. He's cool with us, we love him, and we know he's going to take care of us if we take care of him," Tech G Baylen Brown said via Red Raider Sports. "We know he knows what he's doing, and he's going to make plays if we give him time. It feels a lot better knowing that he's back there, and we're not going to switch it up."
Texas Tech opens the season Saturday against Central Arkansas.

Pizza place offers penny per point pizza if Arkansas beats Auburn
Welcome to our Dr. Saturday feature titled "Random offseason tweet of the day." With real games just days away, coaches and players are still tweeting about non-football-related things as the season approaches. In this space, we'll try to find the funniest and goofiest tweets of the day. If you see something, don't hesitate to send it to us.
There's not much downside to this promotion by an Arkansas pizza restaurant.
Eureka Pizza is promising that if Arkansas beats Auburn on Saturday, the first 1,000 fans on Monday September 1 at the location on the Arkansas campus will receive a large pizza for $0.01 per point. So if Arkansas scores 21 points, the pizza is just $0.21. The pizzas aren't exactly one cent pizzas because it's impossible to win a football game 1-0.
Fayetteville pizza joint offers up 1 cent pizzas "when Arkansas beats Auburn" this Saturday. http://ift.tt/1qqvD3x
— Todd.ABC33/40 (@ToddABC3340) August 26, 2014
In case you were wondering about the discount on that pizza, it's not as much as you would think. Eureka Pizza is currently running $3.99 one-topping large pizza specials, so 21 points in a victory is only a savings of approximately 95 percent. You were expecting a better deal, weren't you?
The odds of 1,000 fans getting the deal is pretty slim anyway. The Hogs are 20-point underdogs to Auburn. But if Bret Bielema's team is closer to No. 1 than to No. 76, who knows?

Ohio State QB Braxton Miller posts a post-surgery photo to tell fans he's OK (Photo)
Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller went through surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his right throwing shoulder, and after it was over, he took to Instagram to let fans know he was OK.
He also added this message:
“Me & the best to do it, Dr. Andrews after surgery today! So happy this man said everything went well!”
Dr. James Andrews is one of the most respected orthopedic surgeons in the sports world, so Miller was in good hands.
Good to know everything went well, and after a little recovery time, Miller can begin the recovery process to get ready for the 2015 season.

VOD: Watch a time lapse of the building of Baylor's McLane Stadium
Have you ever wanted to see how a stadium gets built — in two minutes?
During the course of the past two years, Baylor filmed the building of McLane Stadium, which will host its first game this weekend, and then created a 2-minute time lapse video that is absolutely spectacular.
From the framing to the laying down of field turf, few key parts of the building process are missed and the results are pretty stunning.
One of the things you won’t see in the video is the installation of a Wi-Fi network that will allow all patrons to use portable devices from their seats as well as an in-game app that provides all the information about the players on the field as well as multiple-angle replays.
It’s fair to say Baylor has made the blueprint for new college football stadiums in the future.

Tennessee sends recruit a Photoshop of him with Beyonce (Photo)
Tennessee has taken its Photoshopping skills to another level by using them to create a fake magazine with a recruiting target and pop sensation Beyonce.
Somewhere Kliff Kingsbury, who thinks “Beyonce is Bae” is cursing under his breath.
Shy Tuttle, a four-star defensive tackle from North Davidson High in Lexington, N.C., tweeted out a picture of the Photoshop and it is something special.

It shows Tuttle in a black T-shirt with a Tennessee logo walking next to Beyonce and all of the headlines revolve around Tuttle, including one that reads, “Beyonce On Why She Thinks Tuttle Belongs at Tennessee.”
Tuttle has offers from multiple schools, including SEC foes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss and South Carolina, but this effort has to make a good impression.
