Lawyers say no settlement is currently in the works between Winston and accuser
Lawyers for both Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and the woman who accused him of sexual assault in December 2012 say that there are no discussions of a settlement currently ongoing.
Both Baine Kerr, a lawyer for the woman, and David Cornwell, a lawyer who says he's serving as an advisor for Winston, spoke with the AP. In September, Cornwell said that Patricia Carroll, another lawyer for the woman had asked for a $7 million settlement while John Clune, a third lawyer for the accuser, said that Cornwell had brought up the possibility of a settlement first.
''Jameis had consensual sex,''Cornwell said to the AP. ''There will be no settlement.''
Kerr told the AP in an email there are ''no ongoing settlement discussions at this time.''
Legal experts the AP contacted believ that there is a high likelihood of a civil suit against Winston. The school is currently conducting a Title IX investigation into the incident and could bring code of conduct charges against the quarterback.
A timeline on the investigation or any charges is unknown. According to Clune, the school interviewed the woman in August and Cornwell says Winston will cooperate with the investigation.
After an 11-month delay in the case, a florida state attorney declined to prosecute Winston in December of 2013, citing a lack of evidence in the case.
Winston was suspended for Florida State's win over Clemson after he shouted an obscene phrase in the Florida State student union. He was originally suspended for a half but it was increased to a full game after he reportedly downplayed the incident to school officials.

Luke Bryan jokes about Jameis Winston on Twitter
Country singer Luke Bryan is playing a show in Tallahassee, Fla., on Friday night and apparently had a craving for seafood.
Nah, he was probably joking about Jameis Winston.
Y'all know where I can get some crab legs?
— Luke Bryan (@LukeBryanOnline) October 3, 2014
Winston was issued a citation and suspended from the Florida State baseball team this spring for walking out of a Publix without paying for his crab legs and crawfish.
While it's not the timeliest of jokes from Bryan, we appreciate his sense of humor. And it's a joke he's probably wanted to make for a long time. So we'll give him a pass. Will he make the same crack on stage?

Watch the celebration in Arizona's locker room after upsetting Oregon (Video)
Arizona registered the best upset of the season so far when it knocked off No. 2 Oregon on the road Thursday night. It was the second straight season the Wildcats spoiled a potential undefeated season for the Ducks, and predictably, the scene in the locker room after the win was joyous.
Head coach Rich Rodriguez was certainly fired up.
“You can do anything you put your mind to when you work your (butt) off. And guess what? You think they ain’t partying in Tucson, Arizona?” he said.
The 31-24 win improved Rodriguez’s squad to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Pac-12 play. The Thursday night game gives the team an extra few days to prepare for next Saturday’s home contest with No. 16 USC.

Spread Options: Dr. Saturday's week 6 picks against the spread
Week five had some slight regression, but it wasn't terrible.
After going 5-5 last week, we're now at 19-31. We are far from the 1-9 weeks of weeks one and two. Let's see what we'll hit on this week.
Florida at Tennessee (-2.5), Noon ET: Remember when this would have been one of the biggest games of the weekend? Now it may be the fourth-best game in the SEC. The Vols giving less than a field goal at home is tempting because of Tennessee's performance at Georgia and Florida's performance at Alabama. While the Gators may not be as bad as they showed against the Crimson Tide, these are two evenly-matched teams. The home team gets the edge.
Texas A&M (+2.5) at Mississippi State, Noon ET: The Aggies are the pick here only because it's the team getting points. I have no idea what to think about this game. Can A&M's defense step up and play like it did in the late stages against Arkansas? Who is a better QB, Kenny Hill or Dak Prescott? Saturday's game could break the losing quarterback's Heisman chances.
SMU at East Carolina (-41), Noon ET: Sorry SMU. This pick feels really mean, but it's hard not to envision the East Carolina offense not lighting the Mustangs up. While we appreciate the optimism that interim coach Tom Mason showed this week by saying a bowl and the conference were still up for grabs for his SMU team, there's no chance SMU wins Saturday.
Virginia Tech at North Carolina (-3), 12:30 p.m. ET: There's no figuring out what Virginia Tech or North Carolina are at this point. The Hokies broke a two-game losing streak last week but it was against Western Michigan. North Carolina is on a two-game losing streak of its own after losses to East Carolina and Clemson. Much like the Florida and Tennessee game, homefield advantage is the deciding factor.
Oklahoma (-5) at TCU, 3:30 p.m. ET: This line screams trap game for Oklahoma, but since it's under a TD, the Sooners are still the pick. The game against West Virginia showed that Oklahoma can run against teams without a fully effective Trevor Knight. And to win, OU will need to be balanced. TCU is giving up just over 3 yards per play on defense, the best in college football. It's close, but the Sooners win by a TD.
Stanford at Notre Dame (+2.5), 3:30 p.m. ET: Notre Dame getting points at home to a team it's ranked above? Yes please. Everett Golson's ability as a passer is key to this game and he's shown that Notre Dame can win without a strong running game this season. The reason why this line is the way it is? Stanford is giving up 74 yards per game passing; the Cardinal and San Jose State are the only two teams giving up less than 100 yards a game. Golson ups that average.
Baylor (-15) at Texas, 3:30 p.m. ET: The comments that Texas players have made about Baylor this past year isn't going to keep this game close. While the Longhorn defense has showed flashes of excellence this season, the Texas offense is simply not equipped to keep up with Baylor. Even if Texas holds Baylor to under 30, can Texas score more than two touchdowns?
Alabama (-4.5) at Ole Miss, 3:30 p.m. ET: Potentially the best team in the country favored by less than a touchdown? Yes please. Blake Sims is a far better QB than Bo Wallace and there's a nagging feeling that Wallace will commit an untimely turnover or two. Ole Miss has the capability to keep this one close, but if it's a blowout, the odds favor it going in Alabama's direction.
Kansas (+28) at West Virginia, 4 p.m. ET: The Jayhawks are the pick simply because of some potential interim coach mojo. Interim coach Clint Bowen, a Kansas grad, is a legitimate candidate for the permanent position and the Big 12 team that Kansas beat last year? West Virginia. It's not a second straight win over the Mountaineers, but it's not an embarrassment either.
Pitt at Virginia (-5), 7:30 p.m. ET: Mike London for ACC coach of the year? Sure, the Cavaliers are 3-2, but Virginia was picked as the doormat of the ACC. It's not. Since beating Boston College, Pitt has gone full Pitt, making a game with FIU closer than it should have been and losing to Iowa and Akron at home. In its 41-33 loss to BYU, Virginia held the Cougars to 148 yards rushing. The Cavaliers are well-equipped to deal with James Conner.

Ohio State gives game ball to young fans with muscular dystrophy in postgame locker room (Video)
In an emotional scene in the postgame locker room after knocking off Cincinnati at home last Saturday night, Ohio State tight end Jeff Heuerman gave the team’s game ball to two special friends of the program.
Brothers Jacob and Noah Studebaker suffer from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder with no cure diagnosed during childhood that leads to muscle degeneration. Jacob and Noah have become close friends of head coach Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes program and it clearly meant a lot for Heuerman to present the game ball to the Studebaker brothers.
“This is one of the more special things I’ve got to do while at Ohio State – to hand Jacob this game ball,” Heuerman said.
The brothers also served as the Buckeyes honorary captains for the coin toss prior to the opening kickoff.
— Jeff Heuerman (@JHeuerman86) September 30, 2014
A number of college coaches across the country joined the “Coach to Cure MD” program to raise awareness for the disorder last weekend, so the Cincinnati game was chosen as the perfect weekend to honor Jacob and Noah.
Well done, Ohio State. Well done.

Helmet worn by Auburn's Chris Davis in Iron Bowl to be auctioned
The 109-yard field goal return by Auburn’s Chris Davis to knock off Alabama as time expired in the Iron Bowl will remembered as the most iconic play of the 2013 college football season. Now, fans have a chance to obtain the helmet worn by Davis in an auction.
According to ESPN.com, the helmet will be auctioned off by Goldin Auctions, a firm that “acquired the helmet from a family friend of Davis.”
The helmet, which was also worn by Davis throughout the season and in the SEC and National Championship games, is signed by Davis and has an official “Game Used Iron Bowl 2013” inscription.
“I know there are several Auburn graduates who are big memorabilia collectors who will be bidding on this,” said Ken Goldin, president of Goldin Auctions.
The auction begins Oct. 6 and will conclude Nov. 1 with the bidding on the helmet starting at $5,000. Goldin told ESPN.com he believes the helmet will end up selling for “at least $25,000.”
Davis, a cornerback, went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft but signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent.

What to Watch, Week 6: Time to start separating the contenders from the pretenders
After a dud college football slate a week ago, college football is back with a vengeance this week with a slew of games between conference foes and ranked teams. Here’s a look at what you should be watching in Week 6::
Game of the week:
No. 3 Alabama at No. 11 Ole Miss, 3:30 p.m. ET
Did Ole Miss poke the bear again? Last year, quarterback Bo Wallace said he thought the Rebels could score on the Tide and he was shut out. This year, safety Cody Prewitt said Alabama wasn’t as good as they have been. Nothing good will come of that talk. This is an Alabama team that's way better on offense with quarterback Blake Sims, receiver Amari Cooper and a slew of strong running backs. Ole Miss will have to play its best football if it wants to keep pace. That will be no small feat for Wallace, who has struggled with turnovers against the better defenses he’s faced this season.
Game to watch:
No. 6 Texas A&M at No. 12 Mississippi State, 12 p.m. ET
This game should be a lot of fun. Mississippi State shocked the country two weeks ago with an upset victory against LSU and it’s had an extra week to prepare for an A&M team that struggled with Arkansas and needed overtime to win. Mississippi State has not faced an offense as good as A&M, so this will be a challenge for that defense. If the Bulldogs can keep the Aggie offense at bay, they’ll have a chance. But if A&M is allowed to play at its quick pace, this game could get out of hand quickly.
Also check out…
No. 19 Nebraska at No. 10 Michigan State, 4:15 p.m. ET
Now we get to find out how good Nebraska really is. This is the marquee game for both teams in what are otherwise pedestrian conference schedules and the winner could be a contender for the College Football Playoff. Both of these teams can score, but Michigan State has more diversity and more weapons. If the Spartans can limit Huskers' running back Ameer Abdullah, they’ll win the game. However, there haven’t been many teams this season that have been able to do that.
Don't waste your time with:
No. 7 Baylor at Texas, 3:30 p.m. ET
Earlier in the week, one of Texas’ players said something to the effect of Baylor is Baylor and Texas is still Texas. And it’s that particular attitude that’s going to get Texas beat — again. While Texas might be the flagship school, it is no longer the football superpower it once was. Baylor will take great pride in reminding the Longhorns of this on Saturday. Baylor’s offense is built for speed and Texas’ defense doesn’t have the horses to keep up. This one will be over early.
Keep an eye on:
Brandon Harris, QB, LSU
Harris, a freshman, earned the starting nod after accounting for five touchdowns in LSU’s 63-7 win against New Mexico State. He also has seven touchdowns in seven possessions. However, putting up similar numbers against Auburn at Jordan-Hare would be an enormous feat. Still, if he can play as well against the reigning SEC champions as he has against other teams, all might not be lost for the (LSU) Tigers, who are fighting to get back into the SEC racve after an early loss to Mississippi State.
Upset alert:
No. 9 Notre Dame (+2) at No. 14 Stanford, 3:30 p.m. ET
Stanford is getting the advantage in this game because of its defense and because it’s played a better schedule, but Notre Dame has proven to be a much better program than many expected, especially offensively. Everett Golson has been trying to prove he’s a better quarterback than he was a couple years ago and this game could go a long way toward making that point. Stanford’s offense has looked spotty at times, so if Notre Dame can get the Cardinal in an early hole, it should win this game.
