FBI investigating threatening letter sent to Ole Miss
Fans tend to take rivalries a bit too far from time to time. This is one of those times.
The FBI is investigating an anonymous threat made toward the Ole Miss campus this week, a few days before Saturday’s Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and heated in-state rival Mississippi State.
Ole Miss reportedly received a handwritten letter on Tuesday with threats to damage the Grove, the famous tailgating area in the center of campus.
"What's going to happen to y'all on the field Saturday Aint nothing compared to what's going to happen on your beautiful campus. You won't be one of the most pretty campus's Next year. A lot of shrubs and trees are going to die; especially in the grove. Can't stop us." (SIGNED) "Hail State go to hell TSUN"
The school and FBI are taking the letter seriously and are investigating its origins while encouraging fans to report any suspicious behavior they may spot on Saturday.
"This longtime football rivalry has separated families and friends for generations, but while it's spirited, our attention has been focused mostly on the football field," Ole Miss police chief Calvin Sellers said. "We encourage everyone to remember that this is a game, after all, not a time for hate. We are hopeful that passions have not escalated to the point that someone is prepared to do damage to a landmark for which all Mississippians take great pride."
Ole Miss, ranked No. 18 in the latest College Football Playoff, hosts No. 4 Mississippi State in Oxford. Beyond a year of bragging rights in the rivalry, the stakes are huge for the Bulldogs’ chances of staying in the Top 4 of the College Football Playoff rankings.

Virginia announces London to return in 2015

Virginia head coach Mike London will return in 2015
Mike London will return to Virginia as head coach next season, the school announced on Wednesday.
London, currently in his fifth season with the program, has a 23-37 overall record. "It was important to see improvement in our football program this season," athletic director Craig Littlepage said. "I've seen signs of progress in many areas. Through the staff changes made over the last two years, we are better at teaching the game and in the overall development of the student-athletes. We also continue to notice the commitment by this group of coaches and student-athletes to their academic and community responsibilities.”
London’s team has reached a bowl game just one time during his tenure – a 2011 loss in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. His 5-6 Cavaliers can clinch bowl eligibility with a win over Virginia Tech on Friday night.
"The staff has re-focused its recruiting efforts to emphasize the need to attract student-athletes capable of helping the program compete at a high level in the expanded Atlantic Coast Conference," Littlepage said. "We are seeing many of these student-athletes on the field right now and the staff continues to have success on the recruiting trail. We will continue to support the program in their efforts to maximize their recruiting success.”
The Cavs are coming off an upset 30-13 win over Miami at home over the weekend, snapping a four-game losing streak. Littlepage said he trusts London’s plans for the program moving forward.
"It's important for each of our sports programs to continue to show progress and follow a plan to compete for conference championships and in postseason competition to support the department's goals," Littlepage said. "I trust the plan Mike has in place and believe his leadership provides the best opportunity for Virginia football to be successful in the future."
This year’s five-win effort is a drastic improvement from the team that won a combined six games in the previous two seasons combined.
London served as Virginia’s defensive line coach from 2001-2004, then after a stint with the Houston Texans, returned as the program’s defensive coordinator in 2006 and 2007.
He was then hired as head coach at the University of Richmond and led the Spiders to a 24-5 record and a National Championship in two seasons with the program.
After his success at Richmond, Virginia hired London as head coach in December 2009.

Why Getting Ready To Go Out Is Everything
Minnesota RB David Cobb is a 'big question mark' for Wisconsin
Minnesota could be without one of its top playmakers in the most important game of the season.
Senior running back David Cobb strained his left hamstring in the Gophers’ road win over Nebraska and head coach Jerry Kill expressed concern about his status for Saturday’s game against Wisconsin – the game that will decide the Big Ten West division and who will face Ohio State in the conference championship game.
“He’ll be questionable, very questionable,” Kill said Tuesday. “You know he’ll do everything he can to be ready, but that’s a difficult injury to deal with.”
Kill’s update on Cobb on Wednesday afternoon was equally concerning for Minnesota fans.

After picking up 80 yards and a touchdown, Cobb missed much of the second half with the injury. He was seen on the sidelines cheering on his teammates with his leg heavily wrapped, but was unable to go back in the game. Kill said his senior leader is determined to get back on the field on Saturday.
“He's going to tell me he's going to play. He's going to tell everybody he's going to play. And that's a great attitude because sometimes the mind, if you're down and you're negative and all that, sometimes you don't heal up as quick,” Kill said. “I'm glad he's positive, and if he's ready to go we're going it to play him. He told me that on the flight home. I said, ‘You doing okay?’ (He said) ‘Coach, I'm not missing this one.’”
The 5-foot-11, 229-pound Cobb is ninth in the country with 1,430 yards this season – just 34 yards shy of Minnesota’s single-season record for rushing yards in a season.
The Badgers are certainly aware of Cobb’s hard-nosed brand of rushing and are preparing as if he will see the field on Saturday.
“David Cobb is physical and he runs low to the ground. His pads are underneath him very well,” Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen said. “He's a very viable option outside of the pocket in the throw game and the check down runs, but his toughness is a reflection – week in and week out, when you think you got him for a couple, he usually gets three or four.”
If Cobb can’t go, Kill is confident that senior Donnell Kirkwood and junior Rodrick Williams Jr., along with sophomore dual-threat quarterback Mitch Leidner, can get the job done. Leidner’s 110 yards and two touchdowns on the ground were critical to the Gophers’ win at Nebraska. Kirkwood gained 33 yards on seven carries while Williams Jr. gained 22 yards and scored a crucial touchdown on just three carries.
“I think the big thing with Donnell right now is that he's focused. And Rodrick – he's unique,” Kill said. “If you watch him on kickoff, he's running over everybody on kickoff. He's just a physical kid. I've got confidence in them. Plus they should be fresh-legged, too.”
Cobb’s health could have an impact on the other side of the ball for the Gophers as well. As long as Cobb can eat up yards and clock like he has all season, that keeps the ball away from Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon – the nation’s leading rusher with 2,109 yards and 25 touchdowns.
“We’ve got our hands full,” Kill said. “Great challenge, but that’s what life is about. I’m looking forward to it and seeing what happens."
