Thought of picking starting QB beginning to hit Urban Meyer
You likely know that Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has a dilemma when it comes to picking a starting quarterback for 2015. It's a good one, mind you, but Meyer said Tuesday that he's beginning to be impacted by the decision.
"It's not like receiver, where you can put three of them out there," Meyer said via Cleveland.com. "That's the one thing that's weighing a little bit. It didn't for a while because you're just so busy. But now I'm seeing what I'm seeing, and I have such great respect for all three guys."
Meyer has Braxton Miller, who set records as Ohio State's starter in 2013. He was sidelined for the Buckeyes' national championship-winning season with a shoulder injury. J.T. Barrett replaced him as the starting QB for 2014 and promptly broke Miller's records. He was hurt in the final game of he regular season against Michigan and Cardale Jones replaced him, winning games against Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon to cap a 13-1 season.
It's a situation that may not have an incorrect answer, and no, there have been no hints as to who the starter come September could be.
Both Miller and Barrett are still rehabbing their injuries. Meyer said Barrett was a bit ahead of where he thought he'd be at this point in spring after suffering the ankle injury in November. Miller, who reinjured his throwing shoulder that was surgically repaired after the 2013 season, has had to throttle back his rehab just a bit. Trainers don't want Miller falling on the shoulder and risking further damage.

Kings and Williams not listed on Michigan St.'s spring roster
Michigan State is missing two key contributors on its spring roster.
The Spartans began spring practice on Tuesday and both wide receiver Macgarrett Kings and running back Delton Williams were not listed. Each player was involved in legal issues over the offseason.
"Anybody not on the depth chart is sort of in limbo," Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said Tuesday via SpartanMag.com. "That's the best way to say it right now. We're day-to-day on a lot of guys."
Dantonio failed to go any further about either player on a follow-up question.
Kings was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors after he was arrested on Feb. 28 for an alcohol-related incident that allegedly involved kicking an East Lansing parking vehicle. He was arrested in 2014 for DUI and OWI and missed the rest of spring practice after that arrest. He was sentenced to 13 months probation in a plea deal and had 29 catches in 2014.
Michigan State WR coach Terrance Samuel spoke about Kings Monday afternoon on Lansing's 92.1 FM. From MLive.com:
"Macgarrett is dealing with some personal things that he's got to take care of,'' Samuel said. "The thing we have to do as a family here is to make sure that we walk him through all that stuff and give him the support that he needs.
"So we're going to support him and try to get him through it. That's what my job is, never second-guess the kid and what he's going through.''
Williams, a possible starter at RB for the Spartans in 2015, was arrested last week and charged with brandishing a firearm, also a misdemeanor. He was reportedly involved in a road rage incident on campus. In 2014, he was Michigan State's No. 3 rusher with 326 yards.

Alabama lawmaker proposes bill to bring back UAB football
Alabama State Rep. Jack Williams, who on Monday called for the removal of UAB president Ray Watts, is currently working to get the Blazers football team reinstated.
Williams, proposed legislation late last week to require the University of Alabama System to have a football program at UAB as long as there is one on the main campus in Tuscaloosa.
More than 35 House members have signed on as co-sponsors of the bill.
Watts announced in December that UAB was ending its football, women’s bowling and women’s rifle programs due to a lack of funding. Since that announcement, there have been numerous protests in an attempt to bring the sports back.
Watts also has come under fire after AL.com released several documents that revealed Watts had already decided to disband the sports in September, despite claiming he didn't know their fates until November. One memo suggested UAB should wait until after the football season to announce the cuts to limit the in-season backlash.
Williams called for Watts' job after the documents were released.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is deception and treachery at its worst. Action must be taken,” Williams said.
Williams also filed legislation to restructure the Alabama Board of Trustees to give greater representation to the communities where the other three Alabama System campuses are located.

Former Nebraska DL coach arrested after domestic dispute

According to police reports, Kaczenski, 40, struck his wife in the face with a picture frame during a dispute. His wife, 33, suffered a cut to her forehead and scratches on her face and neck. She did not need to go to a hospital for medical treatment.
Kaczenski denied to police he hurti his wife.

Harbaugh doesn't think he's worth $5M a year

Jim Harbaugh says he's not worth $5 million per year
Is Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh worth $5 million per season? He was asked the question recently and said he wasn't.
Harbaugh was featured on a Fox 2 segment in Detroit and his salary was, naturally, a topic of conversation. Before he signed a deal with the Wolverines that pays him $5 million a year, reports had Harbaugh's potential salary as high as $8 million a year.
The $8 million figure would have made Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in college football. At $5 million, he fits easily into the top 10 salaries of FBS coaches.
When he was first asked about his worth. Harbaugh simply said "no." When the host brought up the idea of giving it back, Harbaugh expounded.
"I like making a buck just like the next guy," Harbaugh told Fox 2 (you can view the video here). "I'm not doing five times as muchwork as somebody else or doing more work than someone who's not the head football coach at the University of Michigan so to answer your question honestly I would have to say no."
You can certainly argue that college football coaches make too much money (and how the NCAA economic model is a broken and exploitative one). However, it's a bit premature to say that Harbaugh isn't worth $5 million a year, even if he says so himself.
Michigan's coach in 2014, Brady Hoke, made $2.8 million. If Michigan improves in 2015, don't you think all of the added exposure and likely extra revenue for the athletic department with Harbaugh's arrival means the additional $2.2 million per season for Harbaugh is well spent, at least in the short term?
Just look at Alabama's Nick Saban, currently the highest-paid college football coach at approximately $7 million per season. In 2013, Saban made about $5.5 million and the football program had a reported $53 million surplus in the 2013-14 fiscal year. Or a number almost 10 times Saban's salary.
Given the going rate for coach salaries, Harbaugh appears well worth the contract right now. Of course, things could change, especially if Michigan doesn't improve in 2015 and 2016. We'll have a better answer to the question in a while.

Oklahoma TE Taylor McNamara says he's transferring to USC
Oklahoma TE Taylor McNamara says he's heading to the Pac-12.
McNamara tweeted Monday that he'll be graduating from Oklahoma in May and transferring to USC. As a graduate transfer he'd be eligible to play immediately.
Want to thank everybody @ OU for a fun 3 years. Furthest thing from a easy decision to leave, but @ the end of the day I felt it was best...

for my future. I've made great friends who I will keep in touch with after I graduate in May. Excited to say though, I'm headed back to...
— Taylor McNamara (@tmcnamara88) March 24, 2015
so cal, and will be a Trojan come July.
— Taylor McNamara (@tmcnamara88) March 24, 2015
The heading back to Southern California reference is because of McNamara's hometown. He was a four-star recruit in the class of 2012 from San Diego. He has one career catch (it came in the 2014 Sugar Bowl win over Alabama) and is no longer listed on Oklahoma's 2015 roster.
OU's leading receiver at the TE position last year was converted quarterback Blake Bell. He had 16 catches for 214 yards and four touchdowns. However, Bell was a senior in 2014. The Sooners currently have three tight ends on the roster.
His move gives the Trojans some imperative veteran depth at tight end. TrojanSports.com reports walk-on Connor Spears has been getting most of the first-team snaps at tight end this spring. Scholarship Bryce Dixon has been held out due to what the team termed a "student-conduct issue" and may not even return to the team. Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick, academically ineligible in 2014 and the other scholarship tight end currently on the roster, has struggled per TrojanSports.com and may not be eligible in the fall.
