Arkansas State's Michael Gordon ends up with a 70-yard TD after ULL thought he was down (Video)

Tuesday night Sun Belt games always provide high entertainment and the contest between Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State didn’t disappoint.

While there we’re several trick plays and acrobatic efforts throughout the game, it was one effort that dealt with basic fundamentals that stood out.

Michael Gordon 70-yard TD run

Arkansas State running back Michael Gordon took a handoff in the second quarter and appeared to get tackled after a six or seven-yard gain. However, Gordon alertly got up and continued running 70 yards to the end zone.

Upon further review, Gordon never touched the ground. He was tackled on top of a defender, knew it and got up for the score.

The touchdown was pivotal at the time because it put the Red Wolves back into what was turning out to be a blowout. However, play-calling mistakes in the second half cost the Red Wolves and they lost 55-40.

Steve Spurrier skirts around questions about the Florida job

Questions about who Florida’s next coach have been rampant as the countdown to Will Muschamp’s eventual firing begins.

CBSSports.com’s Dennis Dodd decided to do a little troll job on Florida fans last week by suggesting that perhaps Steve Spurrier might be the best person for the gig.

Let the speculation begin regarding Muschamp's replacement and let it begin with Steve Spurrier. How cool would it be if Spur Dog ends his career as sort of a "bridge" to the next guy at Florida? Who knows, the way he's going Spurrier might last another 10 years. He's 69, looks 49 and all he wants to do is win.

Spurrier was Florida’s coach from 1990-2001 and led the Gators to five SEC titles and the team’s first-ever National Championship in 1996. He left Florida for the NFL before eventually landing at South Carolina where he’s been since 2005.

Of course, Spurrier was asked Tuesday about rumors that he might be returning to the Swamp and Spurrier skirted around the question.

“I tell everybody my next move is going to be to Crescent Beach, Fla.,” Spurrier said. “That’s my next move whenever that is.”

Spurrier and his family have a come in Crescent Beach, Fla., which is just south of Jacksonville.

Even though Spurrier denied the link between him and Florida, it might be an interesting prospect. As Dodd noted, Spurrier could be a bridge to the team’s ultimate dream coach. He could put the program back on a winning track and then make the transition to the next guy — probably a much younger guy — that much easier.

And it might be a nice way for Spurrier to end his collegiate coaching career.

Georgia RB Todd Gurley wears 'Free Gurley' shirt (Photo)

Georgia running back Todd Gurley has missed the last two games while the university and NCAA investigate whether he accepted money for signing memorabilia.

And while he waits for his future as a Bulldog to be determined, he’s making a fashion statement.

Oh nothing, just Todd Gurley wearing a #FreeGurley t-shirt. http://ift.tt/1sKVbZB

— Parrish Walton (@ParrishWalton) October 20, 2014

The #FreeGurley movement has swept the Georgia campus and while Gurley can’t make money off his name, some enterprising students are.

Peyton Bennett, a student at Georgia, printed up several T-shirts with the phrase “#FreeGurl3y” and is selling them for $15 each. He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he sold 100 in the first three days and that business has been booming as Gurley’s eligibility issues continue.

(courtesy of the AJC)

Obviously, Bennett’s shirts are different from the one Gurley is wearing, but that just shows there are many people making a profit off of Gurley’s name while he can’t.

Marcus Mariota, not Dak Prescott, is now the betting favorite for the Heisman

One sports book thinks that the favorite for the Heisman Trophy isn't Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott.

Bovada has Oregon QB Marcus Mariota listed this week as the favorite for the trophy at 3/2. Mariota's Ducks are No. 6 in the country. Prescott isn't too far behind. As his team is undefeated and No. 1, his odds are at 9/4. Last week, Mariota was listed as 3/1. Prescott's odds are unchanged.

Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon is listed as the third-favorite at 6/1. Alabama WR Amari Cooper and Notre Dame QB Everett Golson are tied for fourth at 18/1 with last year's winner, Florida State QB Jameis Winston.

Alabama has also moved to the favorite to win the College Football Playoff after its 59-0 drubbing of Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide are now 6/1 favorites for the title, ahead of Mississippi State at 13/2, Florida State at 7/1 and Ole Miss at 15/2. Last week, Alabama was the fourth-favorite behind those three teams.

The player who took the biggest hit to his Heisman standing in Week 8 was Baylor QB Bryce Petty. After Baylor lost to West Virginia, Petty's odds for the Heisman went from 11/2 to 33/1. Petty fell from tied for third-favorite to the No. 12 player on the board. He was leapfrogged by West Virginia WR Kevin White, the leading receiver in the country, who had 132 receiving yards and two touchdowns against Baylor. White is now listed at 25/1.

The Bears also fell from 14/1 odds to win the College Football Playoff to 33/1. Baylor was jumped by TCU, who went from 50/1 to 20/1 after drubbing Oklahoma State on Saturday.

OSU's Juwan Offray and Jhajuan Seales arrested after falling asleep in drive-thru

Two Oklahoma State players were arrested Sunday morning after they were found asleep in a Whataburger drive-thru.

CB Juwan Offray and WR Jhajuan Seales were in a car in line when they fell asleep. Per the Tulsa World, police said they were "oblivious" and "lethargic and confused" when they were discovered at approximately 4 a.m.

The two were arrested for public intoxication and Offray was also given a complaint of hampering an officer.

From the World:

“Both males were totally asleep and oblivious to anything going on around them,” one of the officers stated in the report.

The police report indicates that the officers awakened Seales and Offray by knocking on the car windows. Seales and Offray “seemed very lethargic and confused” and “their eyes were red and watery with a glassy appearance,” the report states.

Apparently, Seales, who was driving the car, couldn't even turn it off himself.

“I observed Seales trying to turn the vehicle off and he seemed very confused and unable to possess even the manual dexterity to simply turn the key to the off position," the report said. "In fact, (Offray) had to physically help Seales turn the vehicle off.”

Both players admitted to drinking in the report. Offray received the hampering complaint because he initially lied about who he was. The complaints are misdemeanors, and per the paper, the two are expected to pay fines for them.

Seales has 13 catches for 236 yards and three touchdowns in 2014. Offray has three tackles through seven games.

Bo Pelini doesn't think the SEC's relationship with ESPN is good for college football

Bo Pelini is not a fan of the SEC's arrangement with ESPN.

ESPN runs the SEC Network and with four of the top five teams in the AP poll from the SEC, the conference has been getting a lot of attention. And given that ESPN is the biggest television rights-holder in college football, it's natural that the relationship and conference excellence has led to amplification.

“I don’t think that kind of relationship is good for college football," Pelini said. "That’s just my opinion. Anytime you have a relationship with somebody, you have a partnership, you are supposed to be neutral. It’s pretty hard to stay neutral in that situation.”

However, those comments must mean Pelini isn't a fan of the Big Ten Network either. Or if he is, he has a double standard.

The SEC Network is owned by ESPN and the profits are split evenly with the conference. The Big Ten Network is owned jointly by Fox and the Big Ten. The television network, which has a contract to broadcast the Big Ten Championship, owns 51 percent of the Big Ten Network. It's unreasonable to expect Fox to stay neutral in a situation like that if you feel ESPN can't.

We understand the preception among other conferences that the SEC has gotten more than a "fair" share of attention in 2014. However, given that the arrangement with the SEC Network is based off what the Big Ten Network established when it was launched in 2007, any gripes about it without a direct acknowledgement of the standard set seven years ago seem less like legitimate complaints and more like whining.

Tennessee political ad compares candidate to Lane Kiffin (Photo)

Being compared to Lane Kiffin in the realm of Tennessee politics is not a good thing.

A PAC in Tennessee released an ad comparing Tennessee state Rep. Gloria Johnson (D) to the former Tennessee coach and now-Alabama offensive coordinator.

How much does #Tennessee dislike Lane Kiffin? Enough that he is used in a political hit piece. [photo] #Election2014 http://ift.tt/1wgRZWX

— Jarryd Gonzales (@jarrydgonzales) October 20, 2014

While Kiffin has gotten some scrutiny this year, he's had some good moments as well, including Alabama's 59-0 win over Texas A&M last week and the Crimson Tide's 42-21 win over Florida. But as Kiffin was the Volunteers' coach for one season, there's no positivity in the ad.

The ad says Johnson, like Kiffin, is all talk and is an ineffective leader. Kiffin's 2009 Tennessee team went 7-6 in his first year of a six-year deal. However, after Pete Carroll left USC for the Seattle Seahawks, Kiffin was an assistant coach under Carroll at USC before he was coach of the Oakland Raiders.

The ad likely has some not-so-coincidental timing too. Alabama travels to Tennessee on Saturday, the first time Kiffin has coached in Neyland Stadium since he left the Volunteers.

Per Knoxville.com, the ad was paid for by the Tennessee Federation for Children.

Kliff Kingsbury expects Jakeem Grant to play Saturday against TCU

The laceration that Texas Tech WR Jakeem Grant suffered in a shooting incident at a party early Sunday morning is on his chin and Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury expects him to play Saturday against TCU.

"I would expect him to play," Kingsbury said. "That's not 100 percent but it looks that way."

Grant was at a "krunkness" party Saturday night at a Lubbock, Tex.-area dance hall when gunshots came from multiple vehicles. He went to the hospital after suffering the laceration.

"As far as I know, he did receive stitches and it appeared to be from what I saw under his chin area," Kingsbury said.

Kingsbury also said he didn't know if any other players were at the party with Grant, who is Texas Tech's leading receiver.

"I have no clue," Kingsbury said. "Like I said, I just heard about Jakeem's situation, found out he was fine and that's where we're at."

According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, approximately two dozen officers responded to the incident. Two suspects have been identified and more than 20 shell casings have been recovered. It's still unknown how Grant suffered the laceration.

The paper said that the party was billed as "Krunkness 2014 and “the biggest college night to hit Lubbock, Texas.”
