Morgan State freshman DL Marquese Meadow dies two weeks after collapsing on the field
Morgan State freshman defensive lineman Morgan Meadow died Sunday after being hospitalized for the past two weeks.
Meadow collapsed during a recent practice, Morgan State University spokesman Clint Coleman told the Baltimore Sun.
"He became disoriented during practice and the trainer called paramedics who initially transported him to Good Samaritan Hospital and then to Hopkins," Coleman said referring Johns Hopkins University where Meadow passed away.
Coleman told the Associated Press that Meadow had been improving, but took a turn for the worse on Saturday.
Meadow, an 18-year-old from Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington, D.C., had offers from Akron and Eastern Michigan, but chose to go to Morgan State to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Morgan State did not release a cause of death and funeral services are pending.

Houston honors Heisman-winning QB Andre Ware with 11-yard line (Photo)
Houston football christened its new TDECU Stadium by paying homage to the school’s best player and Heisman Trophy winner, Andre Ware.
It’s been 25 years since Ware won the Heisman Trophy as a quarterback in 1989 and the team wanted to commemorate the anniversary by marking Ware’s jersey number 11 on John O’Quinn field.

The 11-yard line is located in the southeast corner of the stadium.
Ware, who was the first African-American quarterback to win the award, threw for 4,699 yards and 44 touchdowns as a junior in 1989. He also won the Davey O’Brien Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top quarterback.

Report: USC athletic director Pat Haden hospitalized twice in past two days
USC athletic director Pat Haden has been hospitalized twice in the past two days, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Haden was noticeably absent from USC's annual "Salute To Troy" event on campus Saturday, which prompted questions. A source told the newspaper that Haden had checked himself into the hospital twice because he wasn’t feeling well.
The USC athletic department would not comment on Haden’s status.
Haden, who has been USC’s athletic director since 2010 and helped steer it through NCAA sanctions, is also a member of the new College Football Playoff committee. Haden is one of 13 people charged with picking the four schools to participate in the inaugural College Football Playoff.
USC opens the season — and the Steve Sarkisian Era — against Fresno State on Aug. 30.

Miami names true freshman QB Brad Kaaya (whose mom was Felicia in the movie Friday) starter
The quarterback competition in Miami is over and the Brad Kaaya Era is officially here.
Coach Al Golden announced Kaaya would be Miami’s starting quarterback when the Canes’ opened the season against Louisville on Sept. 1.
The decision ends a camp-long battle between transfer Jake Heaps and Kaaya.
This isn’t exactly the way Miami hoped the quarterbacking position would turn out. The original plan was to start Ryan Williams, but Williams tore his ACL in the spring. That injury turned the attention to Kevin Olsen as the starter. However, Olsen was suspended for the season opener for a failed drug test and the competition was left to Heaps and Kaaya.
Heaps, a transfer from Kansas, appeared to have the edge because of his experience — he also started at BYU before transferring to the Jayhawks — but had an injury setback during camp and was ultimately outplayed.
Even though Golden only said Kaaya would be the starter for the season opener, I think it’s fair to assume that if the team is going to burn a true freshman’s redshirt, it’s going to be for the long haul. That means, Miami’s quarterbacking play is going to have some ups and downs, but the Hurricanes do have a lot of talent around Kaaya to help alleviate some of the pressure.
The best thing about Kaaya being named the starter? More appearances by his mom, Angela Means-Kaaya, who played Felicia in the 1995 comedy Friday.

Quiz: Which Game Day Style Should You Rock This Football Season?
Steve Spurrier doesn't want fans throwing eggs at his 85-foot likeness (Video)
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier hasn’t seen the 85-foot banner of himself hanging in front of Williams-Brice Stadium, but he’s heard it looks nice.
And he’d like it to stay that way.
Finished version of the banner going up on Williams-Brice today! #Gamecocks #HBC #HereSC http://ift.tt/1vnaIil
— Gamecock Athletics (@GamecocksOnline) August 21, 2014
Spurrier was asked about the banner during a press conference on Sunday and said that his only concern is that he hopes fans don’t throw eggs at it if the team starts losing.
“I don’t want people coming by there and throwing eggs at it or something like that,” Spurrier said. “And that could happen. If we go bad, that could happen as we all know.”
South Carolina currently owns the nation’s longest home-winning streak at 18 games, which includes perfect 7-0 seasons in 2012 and 2013. So, it’s probably going to take a lot for the fans to turn on Spurrier and launch eggs at his likeness.
And honestly, if someone is athletic enough to launch an egg more than 100 feet in the air to hit Spurrier's likeness in the face, the Ol' Ball Coach might wanna give that person a walk-on look.

Tweet by suspended Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon indicates he's loyal to the Sooners
When Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon was suspended for the 2014 season because of pending legal troubles, many believed the five-star recruit would leave the Sooners and find another place to play.
But Mixon wanted everyone to know that he’s staying loyal to the team with which he signed.
I love OU and my Teammates I'm Here to Win Championships And to win A Heisman! I'm loyal to this Man @OU_CoachStoops http://ift.tt/1zodZP7
— ⚡PRIMETIME!!!⚡ (@Joe_MainMixon) August 22, 2014
NewsOK.com noted that Mixon would likely be staying in Norman after he was seen speaking with Oklahoma Director of High School Relations Rajeeb Hossain following a practice last week. Mixon also was spotted in the stands with other students watching the Sooners work out and he was attending classes that started last week.
Mixon was charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an incident at a restaurant in which a woman accuses him of punching her in the face, and knocking her out. According to the police affidavit, the alleged victim claimed she suffered "a fractured jaw, fractured cheek bone, fractured sinus, and fractured orbit which caused a hematoma on the left eye" as a result of the punch.
Mixon was arraigned on Aug. 18 and is due back in court on Sept. 23.

Five Ways To Wear: A Felt Hat
Cal transfer Johnny Ragin wins two NCAA appeals, eligible immediately at Oregon
The NCAA has often been criticized for its lack of consistency — and clarity — when deciding transfer eligibility. So, linebacker Johnny Ragin decided to challenge that inconsistency and he won.
Ragin, who currently plays for Oregon, was granted an NCAA waiver allowing him to play this season after transferring from Cal. Normally, any player that transfers within his own conference is forced to sit two seasons. However, Ragin won an appeal that waived the two-season rule and he was eligible to play in 2015.
So, Ragin and Oregon decided to press their luck and see if the NCAA would allow Ragin to be immediately eligible.
And it did.
Oregon hasn’t released the reasons Ragin was able to win both appeals, but it must have been something pretty convincing since the sophomore went from being eligible in 2016 to being immediately eligible within a matter of months.
Cal offensive lineman Freddie Tagaloa, who transferred to Arizona, also won an initial appeal to have the two-year waiting period waived. There is no word on whether he attempted to become eligible this season.
Ragin has been practicing with the Ducks during fall camp and coach Mark Helfrich told reporters he’s had a great camp.
Ragin played in eight games as a true freshman at Cal. He was a three-star recruit out of Wilsonville, Ore., and was rated the No. 4 player in the state by Rivals.com.
