Drive Through: Pac-12 Showdown
TCU impresses with Texas win, but still needs help in CFP rankings
TCU needed to make a statement in its final game against a worthwhile opponent and it didn’t disappoint.
The Horned Frogs thrashed Texas 48-10 and did its best to make a case for a spot in the top 4 of the College Football Playoff.
Of course, there’s still one more game to play — TCU will finish the season next week at home against Iowa State — but Thursday’s game marked the last quality matchup on the Horned Frogs regular season schedule. While Texas struggled early in the season, it came into Thursday's game winners of three straight and bowl eligible. Texas’ defense ranked second in the Big 12 in total defense and first in scoring defense, allowing just 21 points per game.
But it was the TCU defense that took center stage on Thursday. It forced six turnovers, which the Horned Frogs converted into 31 points. It was the most turnovers for the Longhorns since committing six against Baylor on Dec. 3, 2011.
Now, TCU gets to sit back and watch the teams ahead of it try to keep pace.
Most of the teams ahead of the Horned Frogs have tough matchups this weekend, including the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn, and the Egg Bowl between Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
If none of the teams ahead of TCU falters this weekend, the Horned Frogs have a slim hope that one might trip up in a conference title game. There's also a slight chance the rankings committee could be compelled to move TCU ahead if one of the teams ahead of it struggles and has to pull out a close victory. Remember, TCU is currently 3-1 against teams in the Top 25. No team ahead of it can boast the same mark.
Bottom line is that while TCU’s win against Texas was impressive, it’s not good enough to move the Horned Frogs into the top 4 all by itself. TCU is going to need some help in the next two weeks to ascend in the rankings. It’s also going to need to handle Iowa State pretty handily.
However, TCU's win against Texas definitely erases any ill images the Horned Frogs made with its sloppy win against Kansas a couple weeks ago and should paint them in a favorable light when the committee meets next week.

Leonard Fournette bowled over Howard Matthews for a TD (GIF)
LSU freshman running back Leonard Fournette hit the truckstick button on his controller en route to a touchdown Thursday night against Texas A&M.
Fournette burst through the line and absolutely bowled over A&M defensive back Howard Matthews on a 22-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
It's a hit that makes you feel sorry for Matthews.
The touchdown tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter. It was Fournette's team-leading eighth touchdown of the season.
Earlier in the game, LSU fumbled on third down and was forced to punt after recovering the fumble and failing to get a first down. However, an official blew a whistle just after center Ethan Pocic recovered the ball. Because of Rule 4.1.2.b.1, LSU had the option to replay the down because of the inadvertent whistle. However, the Tigers didn't score on the drive and were forced to eventually punt.

Family of Ohio State player says he's been missing since Wednesday
The family of Ohio State defensive tackle Kosta Karageorge says the player has been missing since Wednesday.
He hasn't been heard from since he left his apartment in the morning. He told his family he was taking a walk at approximately 2 a.m.
“He had some extenuating circumstances that night that lead us to believe he was upset,” she said.
Columbus police confirmed they are looking for Karageorge, but detectives were not available for comment.
According to Sophia Karageorge, police later traced his phone through GPS to W. 3rd and Elmwood avenues in Grandview Heights, but have not recovered the phone.
He did not take his motorcycle and he does not have his car on campus,” his sister said.
So he was either picked up, went on foot or took public transportation. He does not have his wallet or any identification on him that we know of because his girlfriend has his wallet.”
Karageorge, 22, is a member of the wrestling team as well and is a walk-on on the football team. He's set to be recognized at Senior Day on Saturday against Michigan, but hasn't been at practice on Wednesday or Thursday, according to his sister.
His sister also told the Dispatch that Karageorge has suffered multiple concussions in sports, including one a month ago. The family is worried the concussion is affecting his mental acuity.
He's appeared in one game this season and is a native of Columbus, Ohio.

TCU vs. Texas, 7:30 ET: Five key matchups
Happy Thanksgiving from Dr. Saturday
Ah, another Thanksgiving is upon us. Of course, in the college football world that means we’ve reached rivalry week and conference championship games are on the horizon.
This time last year we were thankful for the demise of the BCS, but the inevitable controversy has predictably followed into the College Football Playoff era.
Still, there’s an awful lot of football to be played, starting with a few good matchups (TCU-Texas and LSU-Texas A&M) to tune in to as you wake up from your tryptophan-induced food coma. We’re thankful for that.
But when you sit down at the dining room table with a gorgeous cooked turkey in front of you, consider the perspective of another in the college football community: the Virginia Tech Hokie.
We’ll let him explain.
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
