Dorial Green-Beckham denied waiver to play at Oklahoma in 2014
The NCAA has denied Oklahoma's request that former Missouri WR Dorial Green-Beckham be eligible to play in 2014.
Oklahoma released a statement Friday evening saying the school would accept the NCAA's ruling.
University of Oklahoma Statement on Dorial Green-Beckham Ruling by NCAA http://ift.tt/1mx700q
— Oklahoma Football (@OU_Football) August 23, 2014
The statement reads "The University of Oklahoma has learned that the waiver request in entered on behalf of Dorial Green-Beckham has been denied by the NCAA. The University accepts that decision and will continue to provide the appropriate assistance to Dorial, just as it does with other students, in helping him grow personally from the many opportunities available to him at OU."
The school was applying for immediate eligibility for Green-Beckham via the NCAA's "run-off" waiver for players who part ways with their previous university for reasons out of their control. Green-Beckham was dismissed in April after an incident in which he allegedly forced his way into an apartment and pushed a female down some steps.
He was not charged in the incident as the female said she was unwilling to press charges due to possible backlash. Earlier Friday, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said he had "other information" that led to the school dismissing Green-Beckham.
The former five-star and No. 1 recruit in the nation according to Rivals played two seasons at Missouri. He was arrested for marijuana usage in 2012 and pled guilty to trespassing in a plea deal. He was involved in a traffic stop where marijuana was found in January but was not charged.
Green-Beckham will be eligible for the 2015 NFL draft and will have the opportunity to declare or play at Oklahoma next season.

Colorado State reserves online roster spot for boy with cancer (Photo)
Over the years, a lot of college football teams have created special moments for children battling various diseases, but Colorado State took it a step further and made 9-year-old Jack Miller an actual part of the team roster.
Jack, who has been battling brain tumors for the past six years, is listed as No. 1 on Colorado State’s online roster. He’s a 4-foot-1, 53-pound freshman that became an honorary member of the Colorado State program during a team meeting last August.
"Jack is a big part of our family, and we all are honored that he chose us to be his teammates,” coach Jim McElwain said. “Part of this whole deal in life is understanding what it takes and what it is to give of yourself to somebody else. I can't tell you how enjoyable it is, after a game, to see Jack in the locker room wearing his Rams jersey, and that smile on his face. He has taught all of us so much about toughness, determination and embracing life."
This is a great gesture and one Jack will remember for the rest of his life.
Well done, Colorado State.

LSU's players saw the new locker room at Tiger Stadium for the first time (Video)
LSU’s Tiger Stadium saw a major renovation this offseason. The stadium’s capacity has passed the 100,000 mark and will now seat 102,321 fans.
Additionally, the team’s gameday locker room also received a major makeover. The Tigers finally got to see the finished product on Friday, and they were impressed.

The new digs aren’t quite on the level that Texas A&M brought to the table last month, but everything looks great nonetheless.
The Tigers’ season opens up against Wisconsin at a neutral location – the Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium – so they’ll have to wait until the home opener against Sam Houston State on September 6 to use the new locker room on a game day.

Gary Pinkel said he had 'other information' regarding Dorial Green-Beckham's dismissal
As Dorial Green-Beckham waits to see if he'll receive a waiver from Oklahoma to play in 2014, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said Friday that he had received 'other information' about Green-Beckham and his dismissal from the program.
After allegedly getting into an apartment in April, Green-Beckham allegedly pushed a woman down "at least" four steps. The woman ultimately declined to press charges because of the backlash the case could receive. However, shortly after he was indefinitely suspended from the Missouri football team, Green-Beckham was dismissed altogether.
Pinkel was asked about the Green-Beckham situation when discussion a report around a situation involving former RB Derrick Washington in 2008. ESPN's Outside the Lines reported that Missouri failed to follow Title IX protocol after Washington was accused of sexual assault.
Washington was ultimately dismissed from Missouri's program in 2010 after another allegation. Missouri athletic director Mike Alden has admitted mistakes were made in 2008 and that he was unaware of the reporting procedures.
"I had other information, quite honestly, that I knew that would help me make a decision and the decision was that I had to remove him," Pinkel said about Green-Beckham via PowerMizzou.com. "That's confidential where I got that, but I got it. I could have thrown it out. I didn't. Because I had to do what's right."
In addition to declining to say where he got the information about Green-Beckham, Pinkel didn't elaborate on what it was, either.
Oklahoma has been trying to get Green-Beckham eligible to play in 2014 while a suspension for freshman RB Joe Mixon is in effect and a suspension for LB Frank Shannon could be in effect for other alleged offenses against females. Yes, we think it looks fishy too.
Mixon pled not guilty to misdemeanor assault charges earlier in the week for hitting a female student in the face at a restaurant. Shannon was accused of sexual assault but was never charged. After the incident was alleged, Oklahoma did a Title IX investigation and last week said Shannon was under a one-year ban. Shannon is appealing the ruling.
The Sooners are pursuing the "run-off" waiver for Green-Beckham and Pinkel said at SEC Media Days in July that he had talked to Stoops "about a month ago." (One has to think that the conditions of Green-Beckham's departure were discussed between the two.) When asked about Green-Beckham's potential eligibilty, he said it was up to the NCAA to decide.
Pinkel has also wished the best for Green-Beckham in the future and it's unclear what information the NCAA is considering when looking at the waiver. A timetable for Green-Beckham's eligibility case to be resolved isn't known. He's been practicing with the team, much like QB Baker Mayfield has, as he awaits the NCAA's decision.

Georgia Tech issued a 'failure to monitor' reprimand by NCAA
Georgia Tech just added two more years of probation to a four-year stint it’s currently serving after being hit with a “failure to monitor” reprimand by the NCAA.
Initially, Georgia Tech was serving a four-year probation from impermissible benefits given to former receiver Demaryius Thomas that was set to end in 2015. This new self-imposed two-year probation, which stems from texts sent by former assistant coach Todd Spencer during a time when only email and faxes were allowed, extends that stretch to 2017.
Spencer resigned from the program in 2012 and is currently an assistant at Army.
“That is not something that sits well with me or with any of us here,” athletic director Mike Bobinski told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “That’s not a good-sounding or good-feeling term. It’s not one we want to wear beyond this. As I told you before, it is clearly our intention this the last time we ever go down this road.”
According to the AJC, several other coaches in other sports also made impermissible phone calls and texts, but said they did so because they were given incorrect information from a now-departed compliance director.

Butte Man Calls 911 When Stripper Won’t Sleep With Him
WVU coach Dana Holgorsen's awesome house includes a fully stocked basement bar with three huge TVs (Photos)
Morgantown Magazine ran a really interesting piece in its August-September issue about the home of West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen. The home, located in Cheat Lake, W. Va., is said to be the “first luxury residence in the U.S.” that is “built completely of cross-laminated timber.”
The cross-laminated timber (CLT) home is 8,000-square-feet and was built by a company founded by Holgorsen’s brother and father, as well as an additional business partner from Germany.
Writes Morgantown Magazine’s Laura Wilcox-Rote:
Being a CLT structure makes the home energy-efficient, even despite its size and seemingly extravagant features like the nearly 20-foot-high sloping ceiling on the main floor.
Holgorsen said that the efficiency of the home, despite its size, makes for utility costs that are cheaper than a home he owned in Houston that was “one-fourth the size.”
“I’m so happy with the quality, the efficiency, and performance of the house, and the design functionality for when it comes time to entertain friends and family, alumni and boosters,” Holgorsen said.
One of the more intriguing features of the home is Holgorsen’s ability to control things in the home via his iPhone or iPad no matter where he is in the country.
Wilcox-Rote writes:
The house itself is just plain smart. Shades can be controlled using wall switches, an iPad, or iPhone, just as Dana can control all of the audio/video, security cameras, and lighting of the house. “Dana can access the network when he’s recruiting in Houston or wherever he is, and he can check the cameras or turn the temperatures down,” Nick says.
Above all, the coolest part of home is the basement where the coach has a fully stocked back bar with three huge TVs.
Holgorsen says he could “easily have 300 people” in the basement and on the back patio “without it ever feeling crowded.” Holgorsen’s father, Steve, says there are six total TVs in the basement, including “one over the bathroom urinal and the projector in the home theater.”
The recruits love the place, too.
“On one of the last big recruiting trips (last year) just prior to signing day, some of them we got to commit said the highlight of the weekend was being able to go to Coach’s house,” Steve Holgorsen said.
Though Holgorsen has lived there since Thanksgiving 2013, there are still a few things on the agenda for the house, including a waterfall. He signed a six-year contract in August 2012, so he should call the Cheat Lake residence his home for at least a few more years, unless the Mountaineers have another down season like 2013’s 4-8 campaign. Then, he’ll find himself squarely on the hot seat.
A big challenge awaits Holgorsen’s Mountaineers in week one when they travel to Atlanta to square off with Alabama in the Georgia Dome on August 30.

Report: Tanner McEvoy will start at quarterback for Wisconsin
Wisconsin will reportedly have a new quarterback under center when the season kicks off against LSU on August 30.
Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, citing three sources, is reporting that redshirt junior Tanner McEvoy has been named the Badgers’ starting quarterback by head coach Gary Andersen, taking the reins from Joel Stave.
Stave, also a redshirt junior, started 19 games for the Badgers in his career – including all 13 games last season – but the staff has reportedly decided to go with the 6-foot-6, 222-pound McEvoy.
McEvoy started his career at South Carolina, but transferred to a junior college after a season. McEvoy landed at Wisconsin in 2013. He arrived on campus as a quarterback but bounced from wide receiver and then to safety. McEvoy impressed the coaching staff with his athleticism and quickly moved up the depth chart, playing 10 games at safety and starting three for the Badgers.
After the season, McEvoy switched back to quarterback and practiced with the first team throughout spring while Stave healed from a shoulder injury he sustained in the Capital One Bowl.
Andersen said at Big Ten Media Days in July that there would be “an open competition” at quarterback between Stave and McEvoy during camp. Stave threw for 2,494 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season, but Andersen lauded McEvoy’s athleticism and said that having a guy who can make plays with his feet adds additional elements to the offense.
“I would say he's an elite athlete,” Andersen said. “But the way he moves around in his size, his ability to – the speed he runs with, I think he runs very, very well. He's elusive and he's smart. He allows you to do some things offensively to force defenses to understand that if you make a mistake, he's more than willing to take off and make you pay.”
Stave does not pose any sort of rushing threat (he ran for minus-22 yards last season). McEvoy ran for 414 yards in his lone junior college season.
Andersen told the media Monday that he had no plans to publicly announce who his starter would be, but now it appears that ship has sailed.
“We may know who the starter is, but we’re not going to say who the starter is until we jog out onto the field for the LSU game,” Andersen said. “There’s no big announcement. We don’t make a big announcement for the right tackle, don’t make a big announcement for the starting nose guard, so we’re not going to do that for the quarterback either.”
LSU head coach Les Miles followed Andersen’s lead, saying he would not publicly say if sophomore Anthony Jennings or freshman Brandon Harris would lead the Tigers’ offense. Miles said Tuesday that there is no separation between the two at this point, but did add that the team will probably find out next Thursday – two days before the game is played at NRG Stadium in Houston.
We'll have to wait and see whether LSU knowing Wisconsin's apparent starter will give the Tigers a leg up in the game.

Did you know college football starts Saturday?
OK, not FBS games. The first FBS game is Wednesday, Aug. 27, but the're an FCS game Saturday afternoon between Sam Houston State and Eastern Washington, or the school you may know as "the team with the red field."
The game on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. ET and the Eagles will wear a helmet decal to honor victims of the Oso, Wash., mudslides.

On March 22, 43 people were killed when a massive mudslide hit the town. The mud was reportedly 15-feet deep in areas after it slid off a hill and down the Stillaguamish River.
Eastern Washington made it to the semifinals of the FCS Playoffs last season while Sam Houston State lost in the second round.

Jameis Winston mauled a tackling dummy for an apparent photobomb (Photo)
If you're going to photobomb someone, make it obvious.
That looks like it's Jameis Winston's motto. The Florida State QB is by far the most noticeable thing in this picture posted to Instagram by Warchant.com's Powell Latimer.
He looks like he's asleep on the tackling dummy, which just can't be comfortable. Or maybe he's practicing for a switch to defense in 2014? That has to be it, right? Instead of simply trying to become a repeat Heisman winner, Winston is trying to win the Heisman while playing different positions. It's a genius idea.

Brady Hoke puts rivalry aside and offers condolences to Ohio State QB Braxton Miller
There’s a fierce rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan, so fierce that neither school acknowledges the other by name, and instead uses terms like, “That School Up North” and “Ohio.”
But when Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller suffered a season-ending during a practice earlier this week, Michigan didn’t start gloating; it offered its condolences.
.@umichfootball coach Brady Hoke: "I feel terrible for Braxton Miller and his family. He's been a class act any time I've been around him."
— 1130 AM WDFN The Fan (@1130WDFN) August 22, 2014
The cynic would say that Hoke was so nice because that means he doesn’t have to face the former Heisman Trophy contender, but let’s go ahead and take Hoke’s condolences at face value and applaud them for what they are.
Earlier this week, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio offered a similar sentiment upon hearing the news of Miller’s injury.
“I felt bad,” Dantonio told the Lansing State Journal. “Braxton Miller is a great football player. He is a senior, has meant a lot to their football team. He is a great leader, a great young man. You don’t want something like that to happen. It’s a tough deal.
“But I would say this — we played without Max Bullough in the Rose Bowl (because of a suspension). Usually when those things happen, people rise up. Everybody becomes a little bit better. What was a negative becomes a strength later.”
Reading the sentiments of these two coaches — coaches who want nothing more than to beat Ohio State on a yearly basis — shows just how much Miller meant to not only his team, but the league.

Indiana follows in Oregon State's footsteps with a post-practice Slip 'N Slide (Video)
Following in the footsteps of Oregon State last weekend, Indiana coach Kevin Wilson decided to wrap up camp with some fun and rewarded his team with a post-practice Slip ‘n Slide on Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.
The players really enjoyed it and Wilson even got in the action with a few slides.
Cornerback Tim Bennett wasn’t too impressed with Wilson’s technique, though.
“Coach Wilson did it once or twice – his weren’t that good. Don’t tell him I said that,” he said with a laugh.
In what will be Wilson’s fourth season at the helm, the Hoosiers open up at home against Indiana State on August 30. Wilson’s squad went 5-7 last year.

Harvey Updyke's dunk tank appearance canceled
If you were planning to take your shot at Harvey Updyke in a dunk tank, you have some apparent e-unruly fans to thank for your missed opportunity.
The Toomer's Corner oaks poisoner's appearance at a charity event in Mobile, Ala., has been canceled. According to ESPN, former Alabama QB AJ McCarron, his wife Katherine and his mother Dee Dee Bonner, who were helping organize the event, received "death threats and other ugly messages on social media."
"It seems to be taking away from the primary purpose, which is raising awareness for children's cancer," Bonner told ESPN. "We don't want to take away from the focus. We needed to get away from it."
(A Friday morning search of the mentions of the Twitter accounts of Bonner, McCarron and Webb turned up few references to the event. It's possible tweets could have been reported or deleted.)
Updyke poisoned the trees on the Auburn campus with herbicide after Auburn beat Alabama in 2011. He admitted his crime when calling in to the Paul Finebaum Show under an alias. He served six months in jail for the crime and was released last spring.
The charity event was to support the family of a boy in Mobile who died of cancer earlier this year. People would have the chance to dunk Updyke or pie him in the face for a donation to Roses for Linda, a charity that helps families with transportation costs to see terminally ill loved ones and children's cancer research.
"I think Mr. Updyke's heart was in the right place with what he wanted to do, but I think too many people are still upset about what he did and haven't gotten over it," Bonner said. "I didn't approve of what he did, but I think he really wanted to help."
Updyke currently lives in Louisiana. The event was scheduled on an Alabama off weekend.
