This play summed up Buffalo's bad night against Ohio (GIF)
Buffalo struggled Wednesday night against Ohio.
The Bulls lost 37-14 at the Bobcats and committed four turnovers. Buffalo was outplayed in almost every facet of the game and were down 27-0 before scoring a TD in the third quarter.
If you're looking for a summation of Buffalo's game, we've got it for you. On 3rd-and-17 from the Buffalo 18, Bulls QB Joe Licata scrambed to his left. And then backwards. And then back to his right. Then he finally threw the football as he was treacherously close to the goal line. You can guess how it worked out.
Ohio is now 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the MAC. Buffalo is now 3-6 and 1-4 in the conference.

Kansas hires Chuck Neinas to aid in its coaching search
Kansas has already spent weeks looking for a new football coach, and now it’s enlisted help.
Kansas has hired Chuck Neinas, head of the search firm Neinas Sports Services in Boulder, Co., to help find the person to lead the Jayhawks football program.
Former coach Charlie Weis was fired on Sept. 28 and interim coach Clint Bowen, the former defensive coordinator, hasn’t been able to do much better during his short tenure.
Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger said the use of a search firm would be geared toward identifying possible candidates and for vetting.
Neinas, who was the interim Big 12 Commissioner and the former commissioner of the Big Eight, charges about $50,000 per search, according to a 2013 story in USA Today.
Neinas’ placement list is impressive. He’s credited with the placement of Mack Brown at Texas; Bob Stoops at Oklahoma; Les Miles at Oklahoma State, then LSU; Mark Richt at Georgia, and Mark Dantonio at Michigan State.

Suspended Utah State player allegedly solicited a prostitute
Utah State suspended wide receiver Hayden Weichers indefinitely on Tuesday for a violation of team rules.
On October 22, Weichers was cited for solicitation of a prostitute by Logan (Utah) Police. The offense is a Class B misdemeanor. According to ABC 4, the arrest was confirmed by the Logan police chief.
Weichers, a redshirt freshman, had 10 catches for 84 yards this season. Against Hawaii, Weichers had three catches for 27 yards. His father, Gary, played football at BYU.
When asked about Weichers suspension by the Deseret News, both WR Ronald Butler and center Austin Stephens used the term "next man up" to talk about the depth at the wide receiver position for the Aggies. However, one wonders if there was a different phrase available given the nature of the offense.
“You know, as a teammate we’re going to wrap our arms around him and love him,” Stephens said. “All I can really say is that, and next man up. We’ll be ready to rock and roll Friday night.”
Utah State, already without quarterback Chuckie Keeton, who is out for the year with a knee injury, faces Wyoming on Friday.

Tulane coach Curtis Johnson made two players hold hands after practice fight
Tulane coach Curtis Johnson had a unique way of disciplining two players on Wednesday.
After right tackle Sean Donnelly and defensive tackle Tanzel Smart, both listed at over 300 pounds, got into a fight at practice, Johnson made the two hold hands.
Apparently #tulane RT Sean Donnelly and DT Tanzel Smart working on their friendship. Holding hands, walking field 😂👍 http://ift.tt/1tdPXCr
— Tammy Nunez (@tammynunez) November 5, 2014
"Yeah, we had a little bit of an altercation and they kind of wasted some of my practice time so I took a different approach in disciplining them," Johnson told NOLA.com. "If they want to act like kindergarten kids, then I just want to treat them like kindergarten kids."
Johnson told the paper that it was the first time he's tried the method as a coach. Though he's done it as a father.
"Well, I've done it with my daughters," he said. "But it was pretty effective. (They walked) actually until the coaches needed them so it was about 20 minutes. ... I pointed it out to the rest of the team. If they as grown men want to hold hands, that's fine, that's what you are going to do if you fight."
It's also probably not what he envisioned doing on his birthday, as he turned 53 on Wednesday, though it may mean other Tulane players will now get along during future practices.
Tulane, 2-6, is at Houston on Saturday.

Texas DC Vance Bedford is not a fan of alternate uniforms, calls them 'clown suits'
When Texas beat Texas Tech last week, the Red Raiders were wearing their alternate Lone Star Pride uniforms which had helmets and sleeves that were a takeoff of the Texas state flag.
Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford, a Texas alum, was asked about his thoughts on alternate uniforms for the Longhorns on Wednesday. It's pretty safe to say we can put him in the "no" column if there's a vote on Texas wearing alternates in the near future.
You’re asking the wrong person because that’s absolutely, 100 percent no," Bedford said. It’s the University of Texas. I mean, a uniform is going to make you a player? When we wear that white, I think that’s as pretty as any uniform out there. You can put all the clown suits on everybody else, all the different color helmets, who are they? When the University of Texas walks out of there with that helmet and that uniform, you know who they are. The respect in my opinion is there. When you look at USC’s uniform, you know who they are. You look at Notre Dame, you know who they are."
While we see Bedford's point about iconic uniforms, USC wore a chrome helmet this year and Notre Dame has been wearing alternate uniforms for its Shamrock Series matchups. So it is possible to mix tradition with alternate uniforms and not immediately make "old-school" guys like Bedford describes himself think a program is immediately mimicking Oregon.
Maybe we should have a poll. What happens first? Texas wears alternate uniforms that are a stark departure from its classic look during a game or the Longhorns win a Big 12 title?

Alabama QB Blake Sims hoping to emulate AJ McCarron's composure at LSU
In preparing for Alabama’s game at LSU this weekend, quarterback Blake Sims looked back at the 2012 contest at Death Valley, studied the play of quarterback AJ McCarron and got some tips on how to deal with one of college football’s most intense atmospheres.
"I've been watching him when he was there ― not pretty much on the LSU defense, pretty much just seeing how he kept his composure, seeing how other quarterbacks kept their composure,” Sims said. “Maybe I can do the same thing. Knowing how loud it is, communication is going to be very big for us. We've got to talk. That's the main thing we've got to do."
While Alabama has been playing about as well as any team in the country in its past couple games, Sims spent the bye week trying to correct mistakes that were plaguing the Tide offense. Most of those mistakes were chalked up to miscommunication and communication won’t get any easier in LSU’s raucous environment.
While Sims might want to emulate McCarron’s composure during the 2012 game at LSU, he’ll probably want to post better numbers. McCarron completed just 14 of 27 passes for 165 yards, but he did lead a game-winning drive when found running back T.J. Yeldon on a 28-yard screen pass with 51 seconds remaining.
Yeldon’s status for this year’s game is uncertain while he continues to heal from a foot injury. Yeldon did not practice during the bye week and has done individual work during Monday and Tuesday’s practice.
Alabama begins a tough four-game stretch this weekend, which includes three games against ranked opponents. LSU is No. 16 in the recently released College Football Playoff rankings and is coming off a 10-7 win against then-No. 3 Ole Miss. Sims knows the Tide will have to be perfect in its communication if it wants to come away with a victory.
"I noticed certain times in the game that he didn't have to say nothing because the players can look to the sideline or they can look at each other, know the hand signals very well," Sims said. "He kept his composure very well. That was a tight game that year. I think he did a great job and hopefully I can go and do the same exact thing."

Internal NCAA emails reveal it 'bluffed' Penn State into accepting sanctions
Internal NCAA emails released yesterday as part of of Senator Jake Corman’s lawsuit reveal the NCAA knew it had no jurisdiction in handing down sanctions against Penn State during the Jerry Sandusky investigation because it was a criminal matter.
However, the governing body chose to act anyway because it thought Penn State would be in no position to fight the enforcement.
“We could try to assert jurisdiction on this issue and may be successful but it’d be a stretch,” wrote former NCAA Vice President of Enforcement Julie Roe in an email on July 14, 10 days before the sanctions were announced. “I characterized our approach to PSU as a bluff when talking to Mark [Emmert] yesterday afternoon after the call. He basically agreed b/c if we make this an enforcement issue, we may win the immediate battle but lose the war when the COI [Committee on Infractions] has to rule.”
Not only did the NCAA admit that it was bluffing Penn State when it extorted it into signing the consent decree — it admitted that, without Penn State complying out of embarrassment (or whatever reason Old Main gives these days), it didn’t have jurisdiction to act.
“I know we are banking on the fact the school is so embarrassed they will do anything, but I am not sure about that, and no confidence conference or other members will agree to that,” wrote NCAA Vice President of Academic and Membership Affairs Kevin Lennon on the same day. “This will force the jurisdictional issue that we really don’t have a great answer to that one…”
Obviously these emails do not paint the NCAA in a kind light, not that there hasn’t been a mound of controversy surrounding the NCAA’s handling of Penn State as it regards to Sandusky.
In the end, the NCAA gamble was correct as Penn State president Rodney Erickson and the Board of Trustees did accept the punishments levied against Penn State, which included a postseason ban, the loss of scholarships and the vacation of wins by new deceased coach Joe Paterno.
At the time these extreme punishments were handed down, there was great debate over whether the NCAA should be allowed to punish programs for egal matters and not matters that inherently dealt with NCAA rule violations.
Earlier this year, the NCAA the reversed some of the penalties and the school is now allowed to participate in the postseason and will have its scholarships reinstated.
Here’s a look at the documents, in their entirety, from Corman’s case.

Eastern New Mexico players lift truck off pinned, dying man, save his life
Eastern New Mexico University defensive lineman Chevy Mikaele and outside linebacker Ben Langford are being called heroes after lifting a truck off a man outside of their church last Wednesday evening.
According to NBC affiliate KOB4, the two players were in church when they heard a cry for help. They ran outside to see a man across the street pinned underneath his truck. Pastor Johnny Pacheco told the television station the truck was on the man’s chest, crushing him.
Mikaele and Langford, followed by several other members of the church, raced over to the truck, lifted it two feet in the air and pulled the man out. However, when they rescued him, they thought he was dead.
"When I dragged him out, he wasn't breathing at all," Pacheco told the station. "We looked for a pulse, but there was no pulse that we could find."
The man, who was identified as John Riley, was eventually resuscitated. He was fixing his truck when it switched gears and rolled on top of him. Riley is currently in the hospital with a cracked spine fighting for his life.
Both players told the news station they actually had no plans to go to the church that evening after practice, that they usually go home, but they believe they were led there so they could help Riley.
"I believe that if God didn't have us placed here, and if he wasn't able to give the strength to these men, he would have died under that vehicle," said Pacheco.

Division III school scores 70-yard TD after pass goes off defender's heel (Video)
Hanover College was playing Earlham in a Division III game when Hanover QB Chase Lightfoot threw a deep pass to WR Tanner Parker, who had a step on double coverage down the field. The pass was underthrown, but instead of being intercepted, it ricocheted off a defender's heel and into the air.
Ricky Windell, a receiver for Hanover, was behind the pass, and he snatched it out of the air and ran it in for a 70-yard touchdown. Yes. Really. The play is absolutely incredible, but we don't think that schools are going to start throwing at defenders' feet in the hopes of more completions like it.
Hanover won the game 49-34.
