Oregon State gets treated to a post-scrimmage Slip 'N Slide (Video)
Oregon State used some creativity to help its players cool off after a scrimmage on a hot Saturday afternoon in Corvallis.
Instead of offering the standard Gatorade, a giant white tarp covered in water was put on the field at Reser Stadium, creating an enormous Slip 'n Slide. By the looks of this video, the players – some still in full uniform – had a great time.
I don’t know how he got so lucky, but senior defensive end Dylan Wynn received the honor of manning the giant hose that allowed him to spray his teammates.
The Beavers, who are coming off a 7-6 season, open up at home against Portland State on August 30.

Florida State wide receiver Isaiah Jones declared academically ineligible
One of the more promising young Florida State receivers won’t play in 2014.
Head coach Jimbo Fisher announced Saturday that sophomore Isaiah Jones has been declared academically ineligible for the season, but he will remain in school and practice with the team.
“Isaiah will be (in school) but won’t be able to play, like Mario (Pender) a year ago,” Fisher said, per the Orlando Sentinel.
The 6-foot-4, 198-pound Jones, a four-star recruit in the class of 2013, caught only two passes for 31 yards in five games for the national champion Seminoles in 2013, but showed plenty of potential in the spring game when he caught five passes for 81 yards to lead his team.
Jones was one of several underclassmen receivers expected to help fill the void left by the graduated Kenny Shaw and Kelvin Benjamin, a first round NFL draft pick who left school early. In Jones’ absence, young players like Levonte Whitfield (a guy Auburn fans might remember) and Ja’Vonn Harrison will be looking to crack the rotation along with five-star true freshmen Travis Rudolph and Ermon Lane.
Of course, quarterback Jameis Winston’s top target, senior Rashad Greene (76 catches, 1,128 yards, 9 TDs in 2013), will continue to be relied upon. Redshirt seniors Christian Green and Jarred Haggins also figure to be in the mix.
Sophomore Jesus Wilson was listed atop the depth chart opposite Greene during the spring, but he was indefinitely suspended after allegedly stealing a scooter on campus in June. Fisher said Saturday that there has been no change in Wilson’s status at this time. Wilson pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges in July.
The Seminoles’ season opens up against Oklahoma State on August 30 in Arlington, Texas.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly on academic probe: 'My emotions were shock and disappointment'
A day after Yahoo Sports reported that Notre Dame was investigating itself for academic fraud, head coach Brian Kelly addressed the media Saturday following the team’s practice.
“For me, my emotions were shock and disappointment,” Kelly said of learning about the investigation. “I think we’ve brought in the right young men. We have to continue to do a better job educating them.”
After confirming the investigation was underway, Notre Dame president John Jenkins said Friday that Kelly was notified Thursday by athletic director Jack Swarbrick of the investigation into four players – wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive back KeiVarae Russell, defensive lineman Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore.
Kelly confirmed that he was alerted Thursday and said that he didn’t know any details of the alleged improprieties beyond the involvement of four of his players.
“We hold our players to a very high standard here at Notre Dame,” Kelly said. “It’s a privilege to play at Notre Dame, not a right. We don’t say one thing and do another. I’m proud of Notre Dame.”
Kelly said that the four players will be held out of practice, won’t be a part of team meetings and that the team is preparing like those players will not be available to play in the season opener against Rice at home on August 30.
Three of the four players under investigation – Daniels, Russell and Williams – are starters.
“I care for those four guys deeply,” Kelly said, per the Chicago Tribune. “They’re a part of our program, but I have a job to do and I have another hundred players I have to be concerned with. My focus and attention is on continuing to develop our players on a day-to-day basis.”
As far as the investigation goes, Kelly said that he was told that no additional players on the current team are being investigated. Additionally, Kelly said he has not been questioned and does not think he will be.
In a statement Friday, Notre Dame said there is “evidence that students had submitted papers and homework that had been written for them by others.” The evidence was referred to athletic compliance on July 29, which initiated an “immediate investigation.”
The school said, if necessary, it would voluntarily vacate wins if the investigation reveals that players who would have ineligible under NCAA rules participated in games, including the 2012 national runner-up team.
Kelly says vacating wins in ’12 wouldn’t change his opinion of that season.

The university said it notified the NCAA of the investigation on Friday.

Baylor visits new McLane Stadium as a team for first time, holds scrimmage (Photos)
With the start of the season just two weeks away, Baylor, the defending Big 12 champions, got its first opportunity to strap on the pads in an intrasquad scrimmage at brand new McLane Stadium Saturday morning.
Predictably, the players and coaches were excited about the experience – from walking on the bridge over the Brazos River to dressing in the awesome locker room to finally running out of the tunnel.
Take a look.

Syracuse went paintballing and things got intense (Video)
To break up the monotony of preseason camp, a coach might give his team a break with some sort of team-building activity or team outing. Texas A&M went to the movies. Penn State went bowling.
Syracuse? They played paintball – and things got intense.
For the third straight year the team took the trip north to Fort Drum for a paintball tournament, and the final matchup pitted the seniors up against the coaching staff. The players came out on top.
Senior defensive lineman Robert Welsh made sure to light up defensive line coach Tim Daoust, who, per Cuse.com, “ran through a wooden barricade to collapse the hiding spot of a number of seniors.”
Like I said, things were intense.

“We just wanted to light the coaches up the best we could,” Welsh said. “To be honest, if we got hit we were going to stay in and keep shooting.”
When Daoust ran through the barricade, it was Welsh who eliminated his position coach.
“It felt good,” Welsh said. “We were jawing a bit before the game so when he ran over the barricade that I was under I knew it had to be him, so I got up and kept shooting. I think I emptied my paintball gun on coach Daoust so that was great.”

Welsh said that the paintball tournaments always help players with their leadership skills, which can carry over into the season.
The Orange’s season opens up at home against Villanova on August 29.

Kliff Kingsbury and Texas Tech pull off epic Ice Bucket Challenge (Video)
Coaches and programs across the country have been participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, releasing videos to raise awareness and encourage donations to the ALS Foundation. Most of them have been pretty standard, but Kliff Kingsbury and Texas Tech raised the stakes to an entirely new level on Friday.
After challenging some Tech alums who are now in the NFL, Kingsbury, rocking his customary sunglasses and gelled hair, threw out a challenge to “the one and only, the incomparable Beyoncé.”
Kingsbury then unveils a hilarious “Beyonce is Bae” t-shirt and has the ice water dumped onto his head. Seconds later, the entire team begins to dump water on one another and then a guy with a giant hose on a crane drenches the team as well.
Although Utah State soaking its entire coaching staff and Colorado challenging President Obama were pretty good, this has to be the best college football ice bucket challenge so far.
Also, if you ever needed further evidence that Kingsbury is the coolest coach in college football, add and the note he sent an adoring fan, to the list.
Kingsbury's Red Raiders open up the season at home against Central Arkansas on August 30.
