Illinois QB Wes Lunt suffers leg fracture, will miss four to six weeks
Illinois quarterback Wes Lunt suffered a leg fracture against Purdue on Saturday and will miss four to six weeks, the school announced Sunday.
Lunt, who was leading the Big Ten in passing yards per game, grabbed his left leg following a sack in the fourth quarter. He was helped off the field by two trainers.
Lunt already had been nursing a knee injury that made him questionable for the Purdue game in the first place, and he aggravated a calf contusion in his left leg, which caused him to limp throughout the second half.
“I’m very disappointed for Wes, his family and the Fighting Illini family, but I know we all will respond to this situation in a positive way,” Illinois coach Tim Beckman said. “He’s having an outstanding season and we’re very hopeful to have him back on the field for the final three games. We are fortunate to have two bye weeks coming up so the games Wes will have to miss are as limited as possible. We have a lot of confidence in Reilly O’Toole and Aaron Bailey as we prepare for our upcoming game against Wisconsin."
Lunt was the one bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for the Illini. He had completed 127-of-191 passes (66.5%) for 1,569 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.
The 38-27 loss to Purdue moved the Illini to 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in Big Ten play. Illinois has won just one Big Ten game since 2011.
Reilly O'Toole, who started against Nebraska, played the rest of the Purdue game after Lunt’s exit and is expected to be the starter going forward.

After Week 6 drama, Florida State regains top spot in AP and Coaches polls
Florida State and Auburn are the top two teams in the country again.
The two teams that met in the 2013 BCS Championship Game are the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in both the AP and Coaches Polls after a wacky Week 6 that saw five of the top eight teams in the AP poll lose.
Ole Miss and Mississippi State, two of the teams who were responsible for the top-eight defeats, both vaulted up the standings. They're tied for third in the AP poll while Ole Miss is fourth and Mississippi State is sixth in the Coaches poll.
The Coaches poll has Baylor third. The top six teams in each poll are undefeated while Alabama is the top one-loss team at No. 7. The Crimson Tide are followed by Michigan State in each poll.
Arizona vaulted up to No. 10 in the AP poll following its upset win over Oregon. The Wildcats are No. 13 in the Coaches Poll. TCU, which beat Oklahoma, is No. 9 in the AP poll and No. 12 in the Coaches poll.
Four teams dropped out of both polls: LSU, Wisconsin, BYU and USC.

An Alabama fan tossed food at Ole Miss fans and got tackled by security (Video)
This Alabama fan didn't take the Crimson Tide's loss to Ole Miss very well and paid a price for it.
He tossed a cup full of what appears to be popcorn and immediately got tackled by the neck.
Don't throw things at other people. While we understand his frustration, he should have just walked away from the stadium. He didn't, and his awesome story to tell his friends about taking his frustration out on Ole Miss fans became not very awesome at all.
At least he didn't mimic what this Alabama fan at the Sugar Bowl did.

Vanderbilt's Stephen Rivers read his wristband wrong and threw a pick-6 (GIF)
Vanderbilt quarterbacks have had some issues throughout the 2014 season and the mistake that Stephen Rivers made Saturday against Georgia might have been the most bizarre one yet.
During the third quarter, coach Derek Mason said that Rivers read the play on his wristband upside down. The play on a fourth-and-two was supposed to be "60" but Rivers read the play as "90." He threw a pass that was intercepted by Georgia's Devin Bowman and returned for a TD. Georgia won the game 44-17.
"(Rivers) looked at the wristband wrong (because) 60 was the play call, but 90 is what he called. He sort of flipped it, got it confused," Mason said via the Tennesseean. "In the end, it just wound up being a bad play."
90 was a throwback pass. Rivers rolled to his left and threw back to the right towards TE Stephen Scheu. Bowman read it all the way and had no one between himself and the end zone.
Mason said he knew the offense was lined up incorrectly but it neglected to call a time out. The play is simply Vanderbilt's season in a nutshell. Mason, in his first season as head coach, simply can't let that happen.
"When you're down on the clock, one of the offensive coaches needs to make the timeout call instead of getting us into a bad play," Mason said. "We got into a bad play, and it resulted in a touchdown. That's on us. ... It's all of our fault."
The Commodores are 1-5 and the only win came because UMass missed a short field goal late that could have tied the game. Through six games, Rivers, Wade Freebeck and Patton Robinette have completed 47 percent of their passes for 930 yards, three touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
