UCLA makes Tom Bradley hire official
UCLA's hire of Tom Bradley as the Bruins' new defensive coordinator is official.
“To bring a coach of Tom Bradley’s caliber to UCLA is very exciting,” UCLA coach Jim Mora said in a statement. “His knowledge of the game, extensive experience, level of intensity and attention to detail all make him one of the best defensive teachers in college football. Combine that with the fact that he has strong national recruiting ties and is one of the most well respected coaches in the game - it all adds up to Tom being a tremendous addition to our staff.”
Bradley, who was with West Virginia in 2014, was mentioned as UCLA's likely hire last week. Former UCLA DC Jeff Ulbrich left around National Signing Day for a coaching position with the Atlanta Falcons. Bradley also served as Penn State's interim coach after Joe Paterno was fired. He was with Penn State for 32 seasons.
UCLA also announced that linebackers and special teams coach Mike Tuiasosopo wouldn't return for the 2015 season. Scott White will take his place. White has been with UCLA the past four seasons.

ESPN suspends Keith Olbermann for rest of week after Penn State tweets
ESPN anchor Keith Olbermann will not anchor his show for the rest of the week after a series of tweets directed at Penn State students.
Olbermann, who was most recently critical of Penn State on his ESPN show in January after Joe Paterno's vacated wins were restored, was told on Twitter by a user about the $13 million raised by Penn State students for pediatric cancer. He responded to the tweet with a response of "pitiful."
"We are aware of the exchange Keith Olbermann had on Twitter last night regarding Penn State. It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN," the network said in a statement. "We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week and will return on Monday. The annual tradition of THON and the efforts of the students of Penn State to fight pediatric cancer should be applauded."
Olbermann said his use of the word "pitiful" was toward Penn State students and not toward the fundraising efforts. The efforts culminate with the Penn State Dance Marathon, known as THON, and students stand and dance for 46 hours straight. Thousands of students participate in the fundraising and over 700 students danced in the marathon. The efforts have raised over $114 million since 1977.
.@dave_seidel No, Son. I said PSU students were pitiful. Had nothing to do with fundraising #AlsoPSUReadingComprehensionAppearsToBeWeak
— Keith Olbermann (@KeithOlbermann) February 23, 2015
However, that was not the only tweet.
.@ColinBenner Good for you. Doesn't change the school's reputation. Check back next century.
— Keith Olbermann (@KeithOlbermann) February 24, 2015
I'd like to thank the students and alums of Penn State for proving my point about the mediocrity of their education and ethics.
— Keith Olbermann (@KeithOlbermann) February 24, 2015
More PSU. You can't be "still hired," Goober RT @arjunarun1 Why is @KeithOlbermann still hired by ESPN? Shameful.
— Keith Olbermann (@KeithOlbermann) February 24, 2015
Picking a childish fight via a pediatric cancer fundraiser is inexplicable. It's an act that Olbermann would likely take to task if it was done by someone else, especially someone he disagreed with.
Olbermann apologized Tuesday afternoon. We'll see if he apologizes again on his show next week.
I apologize for the PSU tweets. I was stupid and childish and way less mature than the students there who did such a great fundraising job.

Big Ten to seek outside feedback on freshmen ineligibility
Big Ten leaders met this week about the possibility of making freshmen ineligible in football and men’s basketball. Now the conference confirmed that it will discuss the idea further and seek outside opinions in doing so.
In a statement released on BTN.com, the Big Ten announced that it “unanimously decided” to reach out to “a diverse group of thought leaders to obtain feedback” on a number of issues, including freshmen ineligibility – which the conference is calling “a year of readiness.”
The “year of readiness” could be established for all sports, or only select sports (read: football and men’s basketball). Other issues the conference plans to discuss include “student-athlete time demands, playing seasons, initial eligibility requirements,” and other things that could impact the academic pursuits of student-athletes.
The Big Ten says it wants input from all of its member institutions:
Knowing that matters of such impact would never be adopted unilaterally by a single conference or institution, it is important to the conference to devise a strategy and timeline that would encourage, and allow the conference to obtain, input from all.
While Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said these discussions are all about promoting an “education first” mission, he says the Big Ten won’t pursue these ventures alone.
“While we are comfortable generating multiple ideas about an education first approach to intercollegiate athletics in the twenty-first century, we won’t go it alone on any of these matters,” Delany said. “We look forward to working with our colleagues in the NCAA Division I governance structure, and to exploring a broad exchange of ideas from both inside and outside of intercollegiate athletics.”
In its statement, the Big Ten acknowledged that it hopes to generate discussion about these issues leading up to the 2016 NCAA National Convention.
We’ll see if anything concrete comes from these discussions.

Vince Lombardi's West Point sweater bought for $.58, auctioned off for $40K
A man who purchased a West Point sweater for 58 cents a year ago found himself a whole lot richer this past weekend.
The sweater, which was purchased at a Goodwill store in Asheville, North Carolina, was owned and worn by Vince Lombardi when he coached the Academy from 1949 to 1953.
It sold this past weekend at an auction in New York City for $43,020.
Sean McEvoy of Knoxville, Tennessee told ESPN he saw the sweater at the Goodwill store and initially thought it was a basketball warmup. He said his wife saw the name “Lombardi” and the number “46” on a tag in the back of the sweater but didn’t make a connection and didn’t tell her husband.
It wasn’t until McEvoy was watching a documentary about Lombardi and saw the famed coach wearing a sweater similar to the one he had purchased. He pulled the sweater out, saw the name on the back tag and made the connection.
McEvoy, who sells vintage clothes online, initially called the Pro Football Hall of Fame about the find and it wanted him to donate the sweater. McEvoy then got in touch with Heritage Auctions in Dallas, which helped facilitate the authentication of the item and then put it up for auction with a starting bid of $20,000.
The winning bid was $36,000, but a 19.5 percent buyer's premium made the final sale price of $43,020.
According to ESPN, the sweater was donated to Goodwill by Ann Wannamaker, the widow of Bill Wannamaker, who coached with Lombardi at Army. Heritage Auctions had agreed to take the money it collected from the seller, about $4,000, and gift it back to that Goodwill.

Brian Stewart officially becomes Nebraska's defensive backs coach
Brian Stewart wasn’t out of work long.
The former defensive coordinator who mutually agreed to part ways with Maryland last week is now the defensive backs coach at Nebraska.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the Nebraska football program,” Stewart said in a statement released by the school. “The opportunity to coach at Nebraska is awesome. My first impression is ‘wow’. From the weight room to walking down the hallway and seeing the national championship trophies, Nebraska is what you think it is…a football powerhouse.
“The most important thing for me in my coaching career is my family. Coach Riley and his staff have been together so long, and you can just see the loyalty and trust. I’m proud to be a part of that.”
Stewart spent three seasons as Maryland’s defensive coordinator, but last season, the Terps defense slipped and was one of the worst in the Big Ten. It ranked 12th in the Big Ten in total defense and 13th in pass defense.
Stewart inherits a Nebraska secondary group that ranked fourth in the Big Ten in passing yards allowed, fourth in passing efficiency defense and fifth in interceptions.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is stuck at sea on Cruise for Cancer
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is lost at sea.
OK, we’re being dramatic, but the boat he’s on is staying out on the water for an extra day because of dense fog in the Gulf of Mexico, according to WBNS-TV.
Meyer and his wife Shelley are among thousands aboard Ohio State’s Cruise for Cancer, which raises money for Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and the Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research.
The cruise left Thursday and was scheduled to dock in Tampa, Fla., on Monday. In addition to Meyer and his wife, the cruise also has thousands of Ohio State fans and several former basketball and football players.
But don't feel too bad for them. The weather is in the 70s on the cruise and 12 degrees in Columbus, Ohio.

Cordell Broadus had a 'Coming to America' birthday party
Snoop Dogg's son got a 'Coming to America'-themed birthday party.
UCLA signee Cordell Broadus had his 18th birthday party on Sunday and it was, well, it was a big shindig.
Just take a look at the video from TMZ:
Someone wanting to find a deeper meaning in this party could wonder if Broadus' future attendance at UCLA is an arranged marriage given the re-enactment of the wedding scene. Though given Snoop's USC fandom, it's a harder case to make than if Broadus was about to be a Trojan.
Snoop also posted a picture to Instagram of the "Royal Family." Yes, Broadus' tattoo of his mother was covered up by his suit and coat.
We're going to go out on a limb and say that the symbolism from the party is instead about Broadus becoming an adult. And we'll also go ahead and pretty much guarantee that we'll never have a birthday party that even comes close to that affair.

Arizona State students re-enact Hail Mary that beat USC (Video)
USC played at Arizona State on Sunday in men's basketball, so what better way to distract USC basketball players than by rubbing in how the Sun Devils won in football?
Arizona State's win over USC was one of the more memorable moments of the 2014 college football season as Jaelen Strong caught a Hail Mary from Mike Bercovici with no time left to give ASU a 38-34 win over USC. It's become known as the "Jael Mary" to ASU fans.
On Sunday night, USC students reprised the roles of Bercovici and Strong while Elijah Stewart was at the free throw line.
You may need to watch closely. A student dressed up as Bercovici is on the right side of your screen. He throws a ball in the form of a cutout being run by another student, to a student dressed up as Strong on the left side of the screen.
We applaud the creativity. So did Bercovici.
Shoutout to the #CurtainofDistraction for the Jael Mary skit 😂😂😂
— Michael Bercovici (@MikeBerco) February 23, 2015
In case you were wondering, Stewart missed the first free throw and ASU won 64-59.

The 5 Types Of Roommates You’ll Have In College
Auburn releases statement regarding harassment allegations
Auburn released a statement Monday night regarding accusations by a woman who says she was harassed by two Auburn football players.
Ashley Ozyurt., who said she suffers from post traumatic stress disorder from a sexual assault incident while in the Air Force, said she was haggled by two players as she and her service dog walked to class last week.
According to the school, the players, Andrew Williams and Dontavius Russell, did nothing with "disrespectful intent" and Williams made noises trying to get the dog's attention from a distance without understanding the dog's purpose. Russell was walking to class.
The full statement via Facebook is below.
On Tuesday, February 17th Auburn Athletics was made aware of an incident in the lobby area of Haley Center involving two student-athletes and an interaction with a fellow student and her service dog.
Based on conversations with the students, it’s our belief that neither of the student-athletes, Andrew Williams nor Dontavius Russell, did anything with disrespectful intent. From a distance, Andrew made noises trying to get the dog’s attention. He didn't understand the purpose of the dog or realize that the student was a disabled veteran. Dontavius had no involvement in the interaction whatsoever as he was only walking to class.
Andrew offers the following message to the female student. “I want to take this opportunity to apologize for raising my voice. I was startled and totally misunderstood the situation. My mother and father who raised me both served in the military. I have tremendous respect for veterans. In the past week, I've learned a lot more about the role of service dogs for veterans and now better understand her courage to attend Auburn.”
The matter is under review by the university’s Office of Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity. We have and will continue to cooperate, and we understand the review must be allowed to follow its normal course.
Auburn has a long history of supporting the men and women who have served our country. We look forward to adding new programs and educational offerings that raise awareness about service dogs and the challenges that often impact those who serve. Both of the student-athletes affected by the incident were raised by military families and value all that Auburn does in support of the many military appreciation related activities.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn reportedly had apologized to the woman for the actions of the players. Ozyurt said the incident had triggered a PTSD episode that forced her to leave class that day.
Both Russell and WIlliams are defensive linemen who were redshirt freshmen in 2014.
