UCLA would like $500,000 to fund a babershop in its new football facility
UCLA is trying to fund its new Wasserman football center and you could own your very own piece of the facility.
UCLA is allowing some football-loving entrepreneur to give the program $500,000 to fund the in-house barbershop. Yes, UCLA plans to have a barbershop in its football facility because, well, why not?
If that’s a little pricey, $250,000 can get your name on the coaches’ kitchen or the players’ lounge theatre. Are the coaches too good to have food with the players?
So far, the only things funded in this project are the football center and lobby, and the team auditorium. The school is still looking for at least $17 million in funding — and likely a lot more since there are a few items that ask for the donator to call to find out how much they need.
If you’re the funder of the barbershop, do you get free trims for life? Or do you get to eat in the coaches’ gourmet kitchen if your name is on the wall? These are things I would want worked into my generous donation.

Accuser's attorney says he expects FSU to bring code of conduct charges against Jameis Winston
According to an attorney for the woman who accused Jameis Winston of sexual assault, Florida State investigated his client in August and he expects the university to bring code of conduct charges against Winston.
John Clune told USA Today that the interview was "lengthy."
"They assured us that the Title IX process was going to move forward," said John Clune, a Title IX attorney representing the woman. "The interview went pretty well. I think it was a positive experience, and everyone felt like the university was taking it very seriously."
Clune said the lengthy interview with his client gave FSU more information than it previously had from the Tallahassee police department investigation. He said FSU officials interviewed two other people but that he does not know if Winston has been interviewed.
"We expect that there will be code of conduct charges that will be brought," he said. "There's no basis not to bring those charges now."
Winston was accused of sexual assault in December 2012, but nearly a year later, Florida state attorney Willie Meggs declined to charge Winston with a crime, citing a lack of evidence in the case. The case was brought up in November 2013 after a lengthy delay.
Winston's attorney had maintained that the sex was consensual.
A Florida State spokesperson told USA Today the school could not discuss individual Title IX cases because of privacy laws. If Winston is charged by the university and found to have violated the school's code of conduct he could be suspended. However, the effect of any potential punishment on the 2014 season wouldn't be known until the case proceeds further and if and when charges are brought against him.
In March, Clune said he expected Winston to be called as a witness into the disciplinary hearing of teammates Chris Casher and Ronald Darby, who were present that night and said he was told by the university that Winston would be called. However, Winston was not in attendance and his attorney said he was told that he didn't have to be there.
The Department of Education opened an investigation into the case in April after the woman, who is not a Florida State student, filed a complaint.
Another lawer for the woman said in April that he was told the school had suspended its investigation into Winston in April after he would not cooperate. Winston was questioned by Florida State officials in January. In his recent interview with USA Today, Clune tried to portray FSU's investigation into Winston as an inter-university power struggle.
"I think the issue is there are definitely some people at this university that really want to do the right thing and want to comply with the law," Clune said. "But it seems like there's a power struggle between those folks and people that would be just fine to just see this go away.
"We're dealing with one of the most powerful athletic departments in the country with the No. 1 football team in the nation and I think we'll know very shortly how much control that athletic department has."

Arrested Eastern Michigan players accused of beating cousin of man who killed Demarius Reed
A day after it was reported that three Eastern Michigan players were arrested for assault, more information related to the alleged incident has come out.
Mlive.com is reporting that the three players – Darius Scott, Quincy Jones, and Jairockeis Jones – are accused of beating a man named Demarko Taylor, the cousin of Kristopher Pratt, the man who shot and killed former EMU wide receiver Demarius Reed last year. Reed was just 20 years old.
Police said that the incident occurred at 12:49 p.m. on August 29 in Ypsilanti. Taylor suffered “a broken facial bone and stitches and was taken to a local hospital.” Taylor was in stable condition following the assault. Police said no weapons were used.
Taylor spoke with the Ann Arbor News Thursday about the incident. He said he was walking home when he saw the three players drive past him.
He said he was with two friends and told them, “Watch, they’re going to turn around and jump me.” Not long after, he said the Dodge sedan the three players were in turned back around. Taylor said he tried to talk to them, saying he had nothing to do with Reed’s murder, but the players didn’t listen.
Taylor testified against Pratt and the other suspect, Ed Thomas, back in January in a preliminary examination. Taylor testified that he was with Pratt and Thomas the night of the murder, but parted ways with the two when they left a party. Pratt and Thomas later returned to a party, but Taylor went back to his apartment, which was in the same complex where the murder took place.
Pratt eventually agreed to a plea deal on second-degree murder charges for which he will serve 18-30 years in prison. Thomas was acquitted.
Taylor said he thinks the trio wants “revenge,” even though he maintains he was not involved with the murder.
“They think I have something to with it, and I do not,” Taylor said.
Taylor said he had previously been confronted on campus earlier in the year by the EMU players, who were charged Sunday and are out of jail on bond. The three have a pretrial hearing set for September 8.
Scott attended Simeon Academy in Chicago with Reed. Quincy Jones and Jairockeis Jones both played receiver alongside Reed.
An EMU Athletics spokesman said Wednesday that the three players, none of whom played against Morgan State on Saturday, are still on the team. The players were not listed on the team depth chart for this weekend’s game at Florida.

Tape of suspended OU RB Joe Mixon punching woman shown to media
Norman, Okla., police arranged a viewing of surveillance tape of an incident involving suspended Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon Thursday morning.
Mixon, who has pled not guilty to misdemeanor assault, is accused of hitting a female student, Amelia Rae Molitor, in the face at a restaurant July 21.
Per the police affadavit after the incident, Molitor had "a fractured jaw, fractured cheek bone, fractured sinus, and fractured orbit which caused a hematoma on the left eye" after Mixon punched her. According to Mixon's attorney, he was acting in self-defense.
The staff of Sooner Scoop were at the viewing of the surveillance tape, which does not have audio. The incident was allegedly started by the usage of a homosexual slur by Mixon towards one of Molitor's friends.
The incident happened at approximately 2:40 a.m.
From Sooner Scoop's Eddie Radesovich:
Mixon begins to walk away and appears to say something to the male as he starts his exit out of frame. This is when Molitor initiates the physical contact with a two handed push. Mixon barely budges, clinching both fists by his side Mixon now flinches/lunges at her. This is when Molitor strikes Mixon with an open hand across the left side of his neck.
Neither the push or the slap are significant in the least bit. What made the viewing even more uncomfortable- perhaps more than I expected- is the difference in size between Mixon and Molitor.
Following the slap across the left side of his neck (she can barely reach his face), Mixon unloads a violent right handed hook. There's really not a nice or clean way of saying it. Molitor immediately falls to the floor from the strike, hitting her face on the edge of the table in the process. Mixon immediately bolts out of frame.
The guy that was standing there is still in view and is now joined by two other girls. They help a very, very wobbly Molitor up off the ground. She is bleeding from her nose, refusing the help being offered.
From RJ Young:
When Mixon looked like he was trying to leave after possibly saying something he shouldn't have, Molitor, the victim, initiated the physical confrontation with a push into Mixon's chest, which didn't seem to move him much.Mixon followed by lunging at her. Molitor jerked back and slapped Mixon on the chin and neck. She swung with force but didn't connect flush or enough to make an impact on Mixon.
Immediately following the slap, Mixon leveled a punch violent enough to knock Molitor down so that her head hit the corner of a nearby table. The force of Mixon's punch caught me off guard -- even when I knew it was coming. After throwing the punch, Mixon fled from the camera's view and did not reenter it. Molitor is left on the ground and stays down for much longer than a 10-count. She makes it back to her feet on her own but wobbles and has to be helped into a chair.
Mixon, a former five-star recruit, was suspended by Oklahoma for the season in August. As part of his suspension, he's been suspended from all football activities. According to the school, Mixon must adhere to certain guidelines to remain enrolled and eligible for his scholarship. He is due in court on September 23.
He was the No. 1 running back in the country and the No. 8 prospect overall in the class of 2014 according to Rivals. Per Sooner Scoop, no other football players are seen in the frame of the footage. The tape will be released to the public on November 1.

Baylor WR Levi Norwood out 'at least three weeks' with wrist injury
Baylor will be without one of its top receivers for the next few games.
Fifth-year senior Levi Norwood suffered a wrist injury in the season-opener against SMU that will require surgery. The Waco Tribune’s John Werner is reporting that Norwood will be out for “at least three weeks.”
Norwood is now the fourth Baylor receiver to go down with an injury in recent weeks. Head coach Art Briles said Wednesday that No. 1 receiver Antwan Goodley (71 catches, 1,339 yards, 13 TDs) will sit out Saturday’s game against Northwestern State with a quad injury. Additionally, redshirt sophomore Corey Coleman (35 catches, 527 yards 2 TDs) is likely to sit out with a hamstring injury and Clay Fuller (32 catches, 512 yards, 3 TDs) is still recovering from a broken clavicle.
Behind Goodley, Norwood is Baylor’s second leading returning receiver from last year’s Big 12 championship team. He caught 47 passes for 733 yards and eight touchdowns last season while also being the team’s most-productive punt returner in 2013.
Luckily for Baylor, who may also be without quarterback Bryce Petty, FCS Northwestern State should not pose much of a threat on Saturday. Guys like Davion Hall (seven catches for 86 yards), Jay Lee (eight catches, 83 yards, TD) and KD Cannon (two catches, 59 yards, TD) showed against SMU that they are very capable of filling in for the team’s top receivers.
Looking at the Bears’ schedule, these guys should have plenty of time to heal. Following the Northwestern State game is a trip to Buffalo, a team that barely beat Duquesne last weekend. A bye week follows the Buffalo game before the Big 12 slate opens against Iowa State.
The Bears should be just fine.

Eastern Michigan's concrete wall intro will happen every home game (GIF)
Eastern Michigan has plans to smash another concrete wall.
Last weekend, the Internet got a hearty laugh as Eastern Michigan players used sledgehammers to break down a concrete wall that created a barrier between the players tunnel and the field. The video of players trying to knock down the wall took nearly 20 seconds, probably expended a little bit of pregame energy and provided high entertainment for all who watched.
Despite the criticism, coach Chris Creighton said the concrete wall intro isn’t going anywhere.
"We have every intention of keeping it going, until someone higher up than me tells me otherwise," Creighton told fans at his weekly luncheon on Wednesday.
"It is easy to be negative, I understand that, but I'll will tell you the concrete was real. It wasn't supposed to be easy. It was well built."
Sadly, Eastern Michigan doesn’t play another home game until it hosts Buffalo on Oct. 11, but the Creighton assures that the wall will be there waiting — as will the 8,000 fans in attendance.
In case you’re wondering why Creighton is so hell bent on keeping this concrete wall, he said it has to do tenets he’s put together for his team this season. He even turned the Eagles’ field concrete gray to drive home the message.
"The wrench, the field, the concrete wall, we know people will have comments, but they all have real meaning for us," Creighton said. "It all goes back to the idea of investing, and working for something. It is about putting on those steel-toed boots, and going to work."

Phillips, a 25-year-old sophomore, had an interesting path before becoming one of the best kickers in the Pac-12. A native of Draper, Utah, Phillips competed on the U.S. Ski Team as an alpine racer from 2007-2011 after graduating from Winter Sports School, a high school for winter sports athletes in Park City, Utah. He also served an LDS mission in Norway.
Phillips had never played a single down of football at any level before walking on as a kicker for the Utes in 2012. He redshirted his first season with the program before jumping to the top of the depth chart in 2013. He made 17-of-20 field goal attempts last season, including a long of 51.
He and the Utes got off to a good start in Week 1, knocking off Idaho State, 56-14. Phillips made all eight of his extra point attempts. The Utes will welcome Fresno State to Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday.

VOD: A view from the field during the Georgia band's performance
If you weren't in a college or high school marching band, have you ever wondered what it would be like to perform at halftime of a college football game?
A member of the Georgia band who plays the snare drum attached a GoPro above the drum for the halftime perfomance during the Bulldogs' win over Clemson on Saturday.
We weren't in a band, and while it makes sense given the acoustics of the stadium and setup, it's striking how much more distant the horns sound than we expected. It's a cool view of Sanford Stadium too. That fourth deck on the sidelines looks really far away.

Texas suspends Desmond Harrison and Kennedy Estelle for BYU game
Texas is down two more potential starters for Saturday's game against BYU.
In a brief statement Wednesday night, the team announced that starting OTs Desmond Harrison and Kennedy Estelle would be suspended for the game. Both suspensions are because of a violation of team rules.
Harrison, a senior, was suspended for the North Texas game as well for a violation of team rules.
David Ash, Texas' starting QB, will miss the BYU game after the team said he suffered concussion symptoms after the North Texas game. Ash missed 10 games in 2013. Starting C Dominic Espinosa fractured an ankle against North Texas and he's out for the season.
According to Orangebloods, Marcus Hutchins and Kent Perkins are penciled in to start in the place of Harrison and Estelle. Perkins started at guard against North Texas and Hutchins was the team's left tackle against UNT after he switched to offense from defensive tackle. Before his suspension, Estelle was the most experienced player on the offensive line set to start against BYU with nine career starts.
WR Daje Johnson and S Josh Turner were suspended with Harrison to start the season. While Harrison was set to return for the BYU game until his second suspension, Strong said Monday that Johnson and Turner are still suspended.
Before the season, Texas dismissed RB Joe Bergeron, DB Chevoski Collins and RB Jalen Overstreet.
