Isn’t that just adorable? Oh, and it looks like the program has its sights set on little Maximus down the line in the 2032 recruiting class.

Phillips, a 25-year-old sophomore, had an interesting path before becoming one of the best kickers in the Pac-12. A native of Draper, Utah, Phillips competed on the U.S. Ski Team as an alpine racer from 2007-2011 after graduating from Winter Sports School, a high school for winter sports athletes in Park City, Utah. He also served an LDS mission in Norway.

Phillips had never played a single down of football at any level before walking on as a kicker for the Utes in 2012. He redshirted his first season with the program before jumping to the top of the depth chart in 2013. He made 17-of-20 field goal attempts last season, including a long of 51.

He and the Utes got off to a good start in Week 1, knocking off Idaho State, 56-14. Phillips made all eight of his extra point attempts. The Utes will welcome Fresno State to Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday.
