East Tennessee State receives $1 million donation toward new stadium
As East Tennessee State gears up to play its first season of football since 2003, the program received good news on Wednesday when Roadrunner Markets and Dunkin’ Donuts donated $1 million toward the school’s new football stadium.
“Roadrunner Markets has been a part of this community for nearly 40 years, and we’re privileged to be able to be a contributing partner in this endeavor to bring college football back to Johnson City,” says Ryan Broyles, President and CEO of Roadrunner Markets. “We recognize the significance that the resurgence of this program will have on the region and encourage all local businesses to do their part as well.”
The 10,000-seat stadium, which the school hopes will be ready for the 2017 season, is estimated to cost more than $26 million. The school announced the location of the new stadium last month while detailing a fundraising effort needed to raise the rest of the money needed (approximately $13 million) to build the facility.
Assisting with the fundraising efforts are country music star Kenny Chesney, an ETSU alum, and former Tennessee head coach Phil Fulmer.
“I want to especially thank the people of Upper-East Tennessee for embracing this dream of bringing an important part of student life back to ETSU," Fulmer said earlier this month. "The community and all of Upper-East Tennessee will benefit from the financial impact East Tennessee state football will bring.”
ETSU senior associate athletic director Scott Carter hinted to the Johnson City Press Wednesday that the Roadrunner and Dunkin’ Donuts donation put the school close to its $12.7 million goal.
“This is definitely a huge benchmark for us, and it’s definitely moving us closer toward our goals,” Carter said. “It’s our hope that others will see the leadership demonstrated today by the Broyles family and encourage them to follow suit.”
ETSU rejoined the Southern Conference in 2014 and will play its first game since Nov. 22. 2003 when the Buccaneers host Kennesaw State on Sept. 3.

The Only Reason to Go to Law School
There are a million things you could do with a law degree, but the only good reason to go to law school is to become a lawyer. Yes, it’s contradictory to everything you have probably heard or been told by an academic advisor, but an advisor works for a college. I work for you. And [...]

South Carolina teases 2015 black jerseys (Photo)
South Carolina will have black jerseys at its disposal again in 2015.
The Gamecocks wore black against Tennessee in 2014 and will probably wear black at some point this season based off a tweet from the equipment department.
New jerseys for next season came today! ⚫️🔮💫 #BlackMagic #GamecockFootball http://ift.tt/1LXso04

You're not crazy if you think they look similar to what SC wore last year. Here's a look at the jerseys from the Tennessee game.
The main difference looks to be the shoulder piping. It was horizontal on last year's jerseys and now appears to be vertical to match the Gamecocks' garnet and white jerseys from a year ago.

New UMass AD shows he has a sense of humor
Reach for the stars, Ryan Bamford.
Bamford was recently hired as Massachussetts' athletic director. He came from Georgia Tech, which recently beat Mississippi State in the Orange Bowl. And the Yellow Jackets are members of the ACC.
When he was congratulated on Twitter by Michael Strickland, the senior associate commissioner for the ACC, Bamford figured he'd make a big request right away.
@mgstrick @GeorgiaTechFB Thanks Michael! How about @UMassAthletics as the 16th #ACC member?!?
— Ryan Bamford (@UMassADBamford) March 24, 2015
Of course, it's (very likely) a joke. But UMass is looking for a new football conference. While the Minutemen are members of the Atlantic 10 in men's basketball and other sports, they've been members of the MAC in football. However, the 2015 season is the final year for the arrangement. The ACC has 14 members in football and 15 in basketball with Notre Dame's conference affiliation.
The Minutemen's options seem limited too. UMass could go independent, which would mean having to find 12 games every season rather than having eight or nine conference games penciled in every year. Or it could join the Sun Belt, which at this point is a nationwide conference with teams stretching from Idaho to Georgia. The American may not be an option because with the addition of Navy as a football-only member, the conference has 12 football teams.
Or heck, maybe it will join the ACC.
