Auburn linebacker Kris Frost said Laquon Treadwell’s strength and momentum contributed to the unfortunate injury that left Treadwell with a broken leg and a dislocated ankle.
Frost told media he felt fortunate to be able to catch up to Treadwell before he reached the end zone, but at the point where he caught him, the only thing he could do to stop his momentum was grab him by the waist and try to yank him back.
While it worked and Treadwell fumbled the ball before reaching the end zone, it also pulled Treadwell’s leg underneath both players, which resulted in the season-ending injury.
“He’s a strong guy and all that momentum he had moving towards the end zone, just really tried to do everything I can to stop him from going into the end zone,” Frost said. “That’s all I’m thinking about, just trying to get him on the ground the best way I can. And with him being as strong as he is, I did kinda have to dig in and try to lean back on him and pull him back. And I pulled him back by the waist and unfortunately that’s when he kinda fell back on it and I kinda rolled up on him.
“And then when he fell to the side, I felt the ball, I felt I kinda hit the ball, but I didn’t know the ball was out actually until I saw Cass (Cassanova McKinzy) jump on it.”
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze told media Monday that Treadwell’s recovery should be about four months and that he might be ready to play again by spring football.
Frost said the team was praying for Treadwell’s recovery and that he would reach out to him when he felt like the time was right. He said he’s been getting a few hate tweets from Ole Miss fans, but he’s not sorry for the way he approached the play.
“Really just, that’s the nature of the game,” Frost said. “You know, it’s unfortunate that things happened that way. I hope that he has a speedy recovery.”
