There’s a quarterback controversy brewing at Florida following the Gators’ 10-9 win at Tennessee.
After suffering through yet another dismal offensive performance by starter Jeff Driskel, coach Will Muschamp gave freshman Treon Harris a shot and the Gators responded.
Harris, who was only 2 of 4 for 17 yards throwing the ball, provided a spark on the ground for the otherwise lackluster offense and led the Gators on their only two scoring drives of the game, including the drive for the game-winning field goal. The backup also finished with 24 yards on four carries and delivered timely plays for his team in the narrow win.
“We just needed to change things up,” Muschamp said of switching quarterbacks. “It wasn’t all Jeff. We had some protection issues. Treon did a fantastic job and we’ll see going forward.”
Prior to Harris’ entrance, Driskel completed 11-of-23 passes for 59 yards and three interceptions.
Muschamp did say whether Harris would be the team’s starter going forward, but did say it would be evaluated next week.
