USC ends first half with successful 48-yard Hail Mary pass (Video)

USC took a play out of Arizona’s book to give itself a boost over Oregon State going into halftime.

Already leading 14-10, the Trojans reached the Beavers 48-yard line when USC coach Steve Sarkisian called a timeout with just one second left in the first half. With his team clearly out of field goal range, Sarkisian dialed up a Hail Mary and quarterback Cody Kessler remarkably found 6-foot-1 sophomore wideout amid a crowd of Oregon State defenders.

The play resulted in a 48-yard touchdown and put the Trojans up 21-10 at halftime after it looked like the lead would be just four. The play is especially big since the Beavers will receive the ball to start the second half. Instead of having a chance to take a lead with a score, OSU will now look to close the deficit.

That’s the second successful Hail Mary in the Pac-12 in as many weeks. In a highlight you’ve surely seen by now, Arizona beat Cal on a last second 47-yard Hail Mary from Anu Solomon to Austin Hill last Saturday.

Is it wrong to expect another next weekend now?
