Amry and Navy were scheduled for a joint press conference on Wednesday before the annual game between the two on December 13. However, Army couldn't make it to the media event.
Army athletic director Boo Corrigan, coach Jeff Monken and players Larry Dixon and Joe Drummond were on a flight that was grounded because of thick fog in the area. The weather left Navy as the only team to answer questions in Baltimore.
A teleconference was scheduled for the msising Army participants, but Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk expressed his displeasure at their absence.
"I would be remiss if, with the appreciation I have for the city and the Ravens, I did not apologize for the other athletic director and the other head football coach not being here. It’s just unfortunate that they could not find a way to be here to be as respectful to you all as you’ve been to us, to make it down I-95 or whatever it takes to speak a little bit to the importance of this game,” Gladchuk said via the Annapolis Capital Gazette. “I don’t speak for Army, I don’t intend to speak for Army, I’ll never speak for Army, but I need to speak for the athletic directors who were very instrumental in bringing this contest to this facility and this city and I feel I owe you, at a minimum, an apology for the other contingent not being here.”
Corrigan said Army had no intention of skipping out on the press conference, which is a regular occurrence in the host city before the game that Navy has won 13 consecutive times. Army's last win was in 2001 and Navy now holds a 10-game lead in the history of the series.
“The intent was to be there. We all got up early, got shaven and everything else. We were ready to come, but we can’t control the weather," Corrigan said.
