New Mexico State's horse mascot knocks over girl during pregame ceremony (Video)

One of New Mexico State’s pregame traditions involves a horse named Keystone circling the playing field rode by mascot Pistol Pete before the opening kickoff. Before Thursday’s opener against Cal Poly, there was a bit of a mishap.

Per the Las Cruces Sun-News, Zaina Atyani, a NMSU student who works in marketing for the school’s athletic department, got in Keystone’s way. The results were not pretty.

The video doesn’t make things look so good, but Atyani had a lighthearted reaction to the incident.

Just got knocked out by a horse. No big deal.

Additionally, Eddie Morelos, NMSU’s assistant director of media relations, told the Sun-News that Atyani was “perfectly fine” after taking the hit. What a trooper.

Even better for NMSU, the Aggies came out on top and beat Cal Poly 28-10.
