UCLA WR Devin Lucien released from hospital following head injury

There was a scary moment at UCLA practice Tuesday night when wide receiver Devin Lucien went down with a head injury.

The redshirt junior was briefly hospitalized after he went up for a diving catch and “came down on his head.” Per the OC Register, Lucien was able to walk off the field and over to the training tent area, where he was treated by team doctors.

Lucien was later put on a stretcher and taken to the hospital in an ambulance, but was released from the hospital later Tuesday night. According to the Los Angeles Times, the receiver is expected to attend practice Wednesday, though the team did not say if he would participate.

“I think anytime something like that happens and you see an ambulance come on to the field of play, it’s tough,” said head coach Jim Mora. “As always, we’re going to be overly cautious with anything that has to do with the head, neck or spine. That’s not a tough decision.”

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Lucien started three games and caught 19 passes for 339 yards in 2013. He is expected to assume a full-time starting role for the Bruins in the upcoming season.

Lucien, a native of Encino, California, was a four-star recruit in UCLA's 2011 class.
