Report: LSU starting defensive tackle Quentin Thomas out for season

A key member of LSU’s defense may miss the entire 2014 season.

The Baton Rouge Advocate is reporting that defensive tackle Quentin Thomas will miss the year due to a torn biceps tendon. An LSU spokesman confirmed that Thomas is “injured,” but would not elaborate on the severity of the injury.

Thomas, a redshirt junior, was penciled in on the depth chart as a starter for the Tigers. The injury reportedly occurred during Wednesday’s practice and will reportedly require “at least six months of rehabilitation.”

Thomas recorded nine tackles in 11 games as a backup in 2013. He did start one game – the Outback Bowl – when starter Ego Ferguson was suspended. He also appeared in three games in 2012 after redshirting in 2011 as a freshman.

Per the Advocate, redshirt freshman Greg Gilmore is listed as Thomas’ backup. Other candidates to fill the void at defensive tackle include Frank Herron and Maquedius Bain.

The 6-foot-4, 303-pound Thomas was a three-star recruit in the class of 2011.
