A day after it was announced that junior Charles Jackson would miss the entire 2014 season, the Nebraska secondary took another blow Friday.
The school announced that LeRoy Alexander has been suspended and will also miss the 2014 season. There was no reason given for Alexander’s suspension.
“Alexander will remain on scholarship as a member of the Nebraska football program and will be allowed to practice with the team,” the school’s statement reads. “Coach (Bo) Pelini and the Nebraska Athletics Department will have no additional comment on this matter.”
The 6-foot, 190-pound Alexander was an expected candidate for serious playing time at safety for the Huskers. He saw action in all 13 games at safety and special teams for the team in 2013 and made 34 tackles. Of his 34 stops on the season, 27 of them were made in the team’s final six games.
Per the Associated Press, local police in Lincoln, Neb., and university police have “no record of any recent contacts” with Alexander. Additionally, his mother declined comment to the AP.
In 2012 as a true freshman, Alexander redshirted. Coming out of the 2012 class, Alexander, a native of Toledo, Ohio, was a Rivals.com three-star recruit.
Nebraska's season opens up against Florida Atlantic on August 30.
