Carl Pelini reportedly asked about high school coaching job in Iowa

Former Florida Atlantic coach Carl Pelini is apparently considering coaching high school football.

According to the Des Moines Register, Pelini "inquired" about the head coaching position at Des Moines Lincoln High School.

"Anytime you have somebody with that type of name recognition, obviously that's a shock," Lincoln activities director Phil Chia told the paper.

Pelini is not being considered for the position, however, and Chia declined further comment because the search for a new coach isn't complete.

Pelini left Florida Atlantic during the 2013 season as allegations of drug use swirled. Pelini denied the allegations and said they were made by a staff member because Pelini suspected the staff member was in an inappropriate relationship.

A former defensive coach signed an affidavit that he witness Pelini and the Owls' defensive coordinator using drugs. In a press conference after Pelini's resignation, which was then termed a firing, FAU's athletic director said that Pelini had admitted to using drugs. However, the official reason for the firing was because he failed to report the conduct of staff members.

Before becoming FAU's head coach, Pelini was the defensive coordinator at Nebraska under his brother Bo, who is now the Youngstown State coach after his firing from Nebraska after the 2014 season.
