Vanderbilt fires offensive coordinator Karl Dorrell, two other coaches

Vanderbilt has parted ways with offensive coordinator Karl Dorrell, wide receivers coach Marc Lubick and strength coach Bill Hughan, the school announced Wednesday.

All three had spent just one season under first-year head coach Derek Mason.

Vanderbilt had one of the worst offenses in the country. It ranked 112nd in total yards, 112th in rushing and 106th in passing.

Dorrell also was in charge of a quarterbacking group that cycled through four different starters this past season and more than one quarterback appeared in eight of the Commodores 12 games this season.

As the quarterback position suffered, so did the receivers. The team ranked 121st in passing efficiency and the receivers had just one catch of more than 40 yards.

"I have great respect for Karl, Marc and Bill and appreciate their contributions to our program," Mason said in a statement in a university press release. "They are men of character and excellent coaches. I wish each of them nothing but success in the future."

Vanderbilt finished last in the SEC in scoring offense and total offense.
