Tony Sanchez reportedly set to be UNLV coach

UNLV is going to the high school ranks to find its new coach.

Per the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Tony Sanchez, the coach at Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman High School, will be the Rebels' new coach. The school's board of regents has a meeting on December 16 to discuss Sanchez's contract. A source told the paper the basic agreement for Sanchez to become coach was in place.

The Review-Journal said an official announcement could come as soon as Wednesday.

Bishop Gorman won its sixth-straight state championship on Saturday in a 70-28 rout. Bishop Gorman is the top team in USA Today's high school football rankings. The school's team has 10 prospects rated by Rivals.com including Cordell Broadus, the son of rapper Snoop Dogg. In Sanchez's time at the school, Bishop Gorman has gone 85-5.

Both the paper and Rebel-Net.com spoke of the indications of Sanchez's hire after Bobby Hauck, UNLV's previous coach, resigned. The program is in need of funds for improvements and they could be provided in the way of donations by the Fertitta family. The family operates Station Casinos and Lorenzo Fertitta is the CEO of the UFC.

UNLV finished the 2014 season 2-11.
