Louisville (6-3, 4-3 ACC) will have to deal with Boston College’s tenth-ranked rushing attack on Saturday without standout linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin.
Per the Courier-Journal, Cardinals head coach Bobby Petrino announced Thursday that the senior will miss Saturday night’s road contest due to a hamstring injury. The injury originally occurred during the Cardinals’ win over N.C. State on Oct. 18, but he was able to play through it last Thursday against No. 2 Florida State.
“It’s unfortunate,” Petrino said. “He’s played real well. It’s just a situation where he needs more time.”
The 6-foot-4, 252-pound Mauldin leads Louisville with 6.5 sacks and 12 tackles for losses. In all, he has 39 total tackles.
In Mauldin’s absence, Petrino said junior Trevon Young and sophomore Nick Dawson would see increased playing time. In seven games played, Young, a 6-foot-4, 229-pound junior college transfer, has six tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. In eight games, the 6-foot-3, 257-pound Dawson has four tackles.
Saturday night’s contest with the Eagles (6-3, 3-2 ACC) kicks off at 7:15 p.m. ET at Alumni Stadium.
