Virginia's Mike London says no 'musical chairs' at quarterback against Duke

Virginia is the only team in the ACC Coastal and the only other team in the entire ACC outside of Florida State undefeated in conference play.

The Cavaliers are 2-0 after wins against Louisville and Pitt. But both of those games were at home. Saturday's game against Duke is the first road conference game of the year, and Virginia coach Mike London said he doesn't plan on playing "musical chairs" at QB.

Again, the game situation dictates that. It's not going to be musical chairs as far as who is in, who is out," London said. "What has worked for us is we have had two guys that played in some games here ... we'll be able to evaluate where we are with Greyson [Lambert], where he is physically with his health. The best way to find that out is when he goes in the game."

Lambert was Virginia's starter at the beginning of the season. However, he suffered a sprained ankle against BYU and was replaced by Matt Johns, who subsequently started against Kent State and Pitt.

Before the season, London was looking at a two-QB system. But Johns didn't play against BYU until Lambert was hurt. Now that both QBs are healthy, it appears Lambert will get a chance to regain his job.

I feel good about the quarterbacks we have," London said. "Greyson was our starter prior to getting hurt. Matt has stepped in the last couple games here to be very productive. Greyson will come back again and see if he maintains the level of production that's expected for a starter."

Last week, Duke spoiled Georgia Tech's undefeated season. Can the Blue Devils spoil another unbeaten team's season on Saturday?

Duke's 31-25 win over Georgia Tech came after Duke coach David Cutcliffe said that Tech had a hard time recruiting "high-end" players because of its offensive system. The Blue Devils forced three turnovers to knock Georgia Tech from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Cutcliffe said his team was becoming more physical. A second-straight win would give the Blue Devils a significant edge in the Coastal Division race.

I think we’re gaining ground in that regard," Cutcliffe said. "I think we recruit a little bit of a more physical player. I mentioned to each one of our strength and conditioning coaches just how exceptional our physicality looked and we managed ourselves well. Our strength was evident. We’re a little more physical on both lines of scrimmage. There are a lot of people involved in that.”
