Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott said he would declare for the 2015 NFL draft if he received a first-round draft evaluation grade, according to Sports Illustrated.
"One of the worst things is not going, getting injured and hurting your situation," Prescott said. "I wouldn't risk it if I had a chance to go in the first round. I'm graduating college, and my time here will be done, I'll do exactly what I wanted to do."
Prescott, a fourth-year junior, is in his first year as a fulltime starter and has emerged as the Heisman Trophy frontrunner following three consecutive wins against top-10 teams. He has completed 96 of 156 passes this season for 1,478 yards with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions and led the Bulldogs to their first-ever No. 1 ranking.
If things continue to go well for Mississippi State, it could find itself in the inaugural College Football Playoff, and Prescott could be hoisting the bronze statue. A fitting completion, he said, to his career as a Bulldog.
"When the time came and there's an option, first, second or third round and I had the season I wanted to have, I'd go," Prescott said. “If they're saying first-round pick, of course my family could use (the money). It's a dream come true."
