TCU’s dream of being a Big 12 champion and representing the conference in the College Football Playoff took a major step forward on Saturday after a 42-9 dismantling of Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys were one of two Big 12 teams remaining that hadn’t lost a conference game. With the loss, Kansas State is the only team unbeaten in Big 12 play.
TCU was able to shake off a heartbreaking loss to Baylor last week in which the Horned Frogs blew a 21-point lead in the final 11 minutes of the game to lose on a last-second field goal.
But if the Horned Frogs were still hurting from that loss, they didn’t show it.
The offense, led by quarterback Trevone Boykin, who injured his non-throwing wrist last week, was as potent as it’s been all season long. The Horned Frogs rolled up 675 yards of total offense and the defense limited the Cowboys offense, which came into the game averaging 37.2 points per game, to just three field goals.
Even after the collapse against Baylor, no one doubted that TCU was one of the top teams in the Big 12. With Baylor losing to West Virginia and TCU still to play Kansas State, all of the goals are still out there for the Horned Frogs.
It’s hard not to argue that the teams wearing purple uniforms are the best in the Big 12 right now.
