Purdue to wear helmets with neon yellow logo to honor cancer survivors (Photo)

When Purdue hosts eighth-ranked Michigan State Saturday afternoon, the Boilermakers will wear special helmets in honor of cancer survivors.

The “Hammer Down Cancer Game” is sponsored by the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research, which uses yellow “as its color to honor its work to cure cancer,” so the team will wear helmets with a neon yellow stripe, ribbon and Purdue “P” logo.

According to a release from Purdue, the team will also wear neon yellow shoelaces, socks and gloves while going with an all-white uniform combination.

The Boilermakers are coming off a 38-27 road win over Illinois over the weekend. The win improved Darrell Hazell’s squad to 3-3, while Michigan State improved to 4-1 with a 27-22 home win over Nebraska.

The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET.
