Brad Durham, a former Kentucky offensive lineman, is in serious condition after he fell from the upper deck at Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium while celebrating the Wildcats' win against South Carolina.
Durham had his back to the upper deck railing and stumbled backwards. A man near him tried to grab on to Durham but he couldn't keep him from falling three stories.
"I tried to pull him, but he's a big guy. I couldn't hold him," Dan Forcum told the Lexington Courier-Journal. "It was like slow motion. I watched him falling. I saw him hit. He didn't move. It was awful. Just awful."
Forcum also said that Durham's feet landed in the aisle and his head landed in seats and he didn't land on anyone below. According to Durham's family via Lex18.com, he suffered broken ribs and vertebrae and is out of a medically induced coma.
Lex18.com also published a summation of the UK police report:
According to the official report taken by University Of Kentucky Police, one fan told an officer he "warned Durham he was getting close to the rail" and that when Durham was "celebrating a football play, he began to jump up and down" and "fell over the railing in front of him and down to the section below." "Nobody had pushed Durham," that fan said. He also believed Durham was "pretty intoxicated."
Durham played for Kentucky from 2007-2010. Kentucky coach Mark Stoops was asked about Durham's fall during his Monday press conference.
"I'll just say that with the great support and energy we had in that stadium, it was sad to hear that somebody got injured, and definitely our hearts and prayers are with anybody that got hurt at the stadium," Stoops said.
