Houston QB Greg Ward Jr.'s helmet flies off on hard hit (GIFs)

On its methodical first drive of the night against Temple, Houston drove down inside the Owls’ 10-yard line. On a third-and-goal, the Cougars’ 14th play of the drive, quarterback Greg Ward Jr. saw no one open and looked to run.

Ward Jr. a sophomore, sprinted left toward the goal line and was met with a hard hit from Temple’s Avery Williams just short of the goal line.

Ward Jr.’s helmet went flying at least five yards. Here’s another look.

Ward Jr. was fine after the hit, but Williams was shaken up and hobbled off the field.

Williams’ hit forced the Cougars to settle for a short field goal to go up 3-0.

Though Temple turned the ball over twice, a touchdown with under a minute to go in the first half allowed the Owls to cut Houston’s lead to 17-10 at halftime.
