Miami QB Kevin Olsen arrested and charged with DUI

Miami backup quarterback Kevin Olsen was arrested and charged with DUI and possession of a fake or stolen driver’s license over the weekend.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the 19-year-old Olsen was booked “after 4 a.m. Monday morning” and is currently being held on $6,000 bond.

Olsen, a redshirt freshman, has not played in a game for the Hurricanes but was expected to compete for the starting job this season after Ryan Williams injured his knee in April. Instead, news emerged that Olsen had failed a drug test and was suspended for the last two games of the 2013 season and the 2014 season opener against Louisville.

He was briefly taking first-team reps in the spring after Williams’ injury, but has since been passed on the depth chart by freshman Brad Kaaya and Kansas transfer Jake Heaps.

Miami head coach Al Golden said last week before the Arkansas State game that Olsen had a “really good” preseason and showed “growth” in the last six months.

“The suspension – just because it happened now – does not reflect all the growth that he had,” Golden said. “I want to make sure we’re clear on that, he’s had a lot of growth here in the last half-year and certainly in the last four months. He has made a lot of progress and hopefully Kevin can continue to do that for us.”

A native of Wayne, N.J., Olsen was a four-star recruit in Miami’s 2013 class. The school has yet to comment on his weekend arrest.
