Lawyer for Jameis Winston reportedly says accuser's lawyer asked for $7 million

Did a lawyer for Jameis Winston's accuser ask for $7 milliion to never talk about the case again? Per TMZ, that's what David Cornwell, a lawyer for Jameis Winston, told the school.

Cornwell tweeted Tuesday that he would be advising Winston to cooperate in the school's Title IX investigation into the accused sexual assault against him. TMZ said it obtained the letter Cornwell sent to Florida State, and in it, he says that Patricia Carroll, a lawyer for the accuser, asked for $7 million and "If we settle, you will never hear from my client or me again -- in the press or anywhere."

The offer was rejected.

After the accusations resurfaced after an 11-month delay in the case, Winston wasn't charged due to a lack of evidence in the case. The woman also had a second set of DNA on her shorts. The presence of the second set of DNA is applicable to another statement that Cornwell reportedly wrote that Carroll made.

In January, Carroll said that the woman would be filing a civil suit against Winston and that she wanted "heads to roll." It's unclear when the demand for the settlement was allegedly made to Cornwell.

The school interviewed Winston in January and is resuming a Title IX investigation into the matter. According to another lawyer for the accuser, she was interviewed by the school in August. That lawyer, John Clune, said he expected the school to bring code of conduct charges against Winston.

In April, the Department of Education opened an investigation into Florida State's handling of the case.

"Mr. Winston will cooperate with the Investigation," ends Cornwell's letter, via TMZ. "He looks forward to clearing his name. But Mr. Winston will not walk into a honey trap. The Investigation must be a legitimate investigation."
