USC will be missing a potential key contributor at tight end in 2014.
After Monday's first practice of fall camp, coach Steve Sarkisian announced that Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick would miss the season.
While Cope-Fitzpatrick had just one catch last year as a sophomore, he was listed atop the 2014 depth chart according to USCFootball.com. Even though he won't be able to play in any games, he can practice with the team.
With Cope-Fitzpatrick, USC had just three scholarship tight ends on the roster, so now the team is down to two. His absence may open up playing time for freshman Bryce Dixon. Dixon, a four-star recruit according to Rivals, was the No. 5 TE recruit in the country in the class of 2014.
The other scholarship TE is senior Randall Telfer, who had six catches for 78 yards in 2013.
