The SEC Network is going to space.
Astronaut Barry Wilmore, a native of Tennessee, made one request for his upcoming trip to the International Space Station with two Russian cosmonauts, he needed to see his SEC football games.
So, NASA made sure Wilmore could get his football fix via the new SEC Network beamed into the International Space Station.
"I don't watch a lot of sports — my wife might not agree with that — but I do like to watch football, the SEC Game of the Week, and I try to catch (alma mater Tennessee) Tech every chance I get," Wilmore told the Nashville Tennessean.
Wilmore travels to the International Space Station on Sept. 26 and won’t return to Earth until March 2015.
Wilmore walked on to the football team at Tennessee Tech and started at linebacker by his sophomore season. As a senior, he had 143 tackles, which is third on the school’s all-time single-season tackles list. He was inducted into the Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame.
So, now the SEC has won the space race and other life forms will come to know Les Miles and Steve Spurrier as our leaders, grass as our sustenance and Nick Saban as our arch enemy. Your move, Big Ten.
