LSU starting free safety Jalen Mills was back on the field Monday afternoon after the second-degree battery charge that had been leveled against him was reduced to simple battery.
Mills had been suspended since May after Mills allegedly punched a female in the mouth. According to the warrant, the victim told authorities she was at his apartment complex looking for a friend when she knocked on Mills’ door. He opened the door, closed it and after the victim knocked on the door one more time, she started walking down the hall.
A short time later, the victim said someone called her name, she turned and was punched in the face by Mills. The victim was knocked unconscious and received four stitches in her lip.
Mills’ attorney Brent Stockstill claimed his client never struck the victim and that it was another woman who hit her.
Mills was the Tigers’ third-leading tackler last season after starting in 12 of 13 games. He started at safety as a freshman before moving to safety.
Coach Les Miles said Mills will continue to serve in-house punishment, but is fully reinstated to the team. He said because Mills was not able to participate in offseason conditioning, he's behind and will need to spend extra time catching up.
