Dana Holgorsen and Jake Spavital have some fun Liberty Bowl banter

West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen and Texas A&M offensive coordinator Jake Spavital are already having a back-and-forth about their schools' December 29 meeting in the Liberty Bowl.

The two coached together at Houston, Oklahoma State and West Virginia before Spavital became Texas A&M's offensive coordinator in 2013. Spavital was a grad assistant at Houston and Oklahoma State while Holgorsen was an assistant and was West Virginia's quarterbacks coach for two seasons after Holgorsen was hired as the Mountaineers' head coach.

According to Tony Caridi, the Mountaineers' play-by-play announcer, Spavital started it via phone and then the banter took off on Twitter from there.

Tony Sanchez reportedly set to be UNLV coach

UNLV is going to the high school ranks to find its new coach.

Per the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Tony Sanchez, the coach at Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman High School, will be the Rebels' new coach. The school's board of regents has a meeting on December 16 to discuss Sanchez's contract. A source told the paper the basic agreement for Sanchez to become coach was in place.

The Review-Journal said an official announcement could come as soon as Wednesday.

Bishop Gorman won its sixth-straight state championship on Saturday in a 70-28 rout. Bishop Gorman is the top team in USA Today's high school football rankings. The school's team has 10 prospects rated by Rivals.com including Cordell Broadus, the son of rapper Snoop Dogg. In Sanchez's time at the school, Bishop Gorman has gone 85-5.

Both the paper and Rebel-Net.com spoke of the indications of Sanchez's hire after Bobby Hauck, UNLV's previous coach, resigned. The program is in need of funds for improvements and they could be provided in the way of donations by the Fertitta family. The family operates Station Casinos and Lorenzo Fertitta is the CEO of the UFC.

UNLV finished the 2014 season 2-11.

Tulane's Kenny Welcome sang the national anthem Saturday (Video)

Tulane's played at home in its final game of the season on Saturday, and for Senior Day, DT Kenny Welcome sang the national anthem.

How did Welcome get picked for the job? Well, he sang "Isn't She Lovely" in an audition to Tulane's marketing department.

From NOLA.com:

Welcome has done weddings, funerals, and he has belted out most of his harmony at First Street United Methodist Church but this will be the first sporting event.

"I've always joked around about it as far as my whole time in college," Welcome said. "I know my mom always wanted me to sing it. I sang a snippet of it on the ESPN Access when we did a tour of the stadium, and after that, all the people were interested in me singing."

Welcome, a redshirt senior, played in all of Tulane's 12 games this season and had one tackle. His voice has the approval of his coach Curtis Johnson, however. And our approval too. Welcome is really good.

"He can sing. It's funny. I listen to Luther Vandross a lot and I try to serenade my wife and it only works about half the time," Johnson said. "But I listen to him and, golly, he sounds like Luther. He can really, really sing. I'm impressed and it's hard to impress me."

Tulane lost to Temple 10-3 on Saturday. The Green Wave finish the season 3-9.
