Three Morgan State players stabbed in incident on campus

(MSU Athletics Media Relations) Three members of the Morgan State football team were stabbed on campus on Tuesday afternoon and one was “seriously injured,” according to the Baltimore Sun.

University spokesman Clint Coleman told the Sun that a suspect was seen outside a school cafeteria “wildly swinging” a knife in an area near residence halls and a practice football field around 2:05 p.m.

Police said that one victim was “stabbed in the chest” and is currently hospitalized and in “very serious” condition. Fortunately, the victims’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Coleman said.

Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts confirmed that the victims were football players.

According to Coleman, who said that a suspect is in custody, the incident may be connected to a fight that occurred at a “campus dance.”

From the Sun:

Coleman said a suspect was in custody, and that the incident may be connected to fights over the weekend at a campus dance. That event drew 1,200 people had to be broken up after the fights broke out, police said. The party, sponsored by the student government and Greek letter organizations, had marked the first on-campus party since a moratorium had been placed on such events a year ago, in part due to a similar incident.

The football team, which had its first day of spring practices on Tuesday, went 7-6 last year and won a share of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, earning a trip to the FCS playoffs.
