A strange sequence of events took place early in the second quarter as NC State tried to take the lead over Georgia Tech.
Trailing 14-13, the Wolfpack faced second and goal from the 5-yard line and quarterback Jacoby Brissett looked to Bryan Underwood on a slant toward the goal line. Tech cornerback Chris Milton was tight in coverage and delivered a hit that caused the ball to pop out. As Milton and Underwood fell to the ground, the ball deflected off Milton’s foot and into the waiting arms of Quayshawn Nealy.
Nealy took off in the other direction and picked up a few blocks. He scampered 71 yards until NC State’s Jaylen Samuels tracked him down from behind. Not only did Samuels save a potential pick six, he actually stripped the ball away from Nealy and the Wolfpack regained possession.
The wackiness didn’t end there. Two plays later, Brissett threw another interception, but this time Tech was able to score as D.J. White took it 38 yards for a score. The pick six increased the Yellow Jackets’ lead to 28-13.
