Tennessee players subject of sexual assault investigation

Two Tennessee players are the subject of a sexual assault investigation, according Knoxville television station WBIR.

Jimmy Hyams of Knoxville radio station WNML reported that two Tennessee players were reportedly involved in an alleged rape and coach Butch Jones confirmed that there was an ongoing investigation involving football players, but declined to elaborate.

Linebacker A.J. Johnson was one of those named, according to WBIR.

"We have so much positive momentum and positive energy right now,” Jones told media on Monday. “We can’t let that (allegation) derail us."

Jones also said he had not suspended anyone yet and that the school was still looking into the matter. But noted that he’s shown in the past that he takes allegations like this seriously.

According to Hyams, the incident occurred Sunday after a party following the Vols 50-16 win against Kentucky. One of the alleged victims said she would press charges while the other said she will not, according to Hyams.

Johnson was one of two players arrested back in February for provide alcohol to minors and resisting arrest. He was placed on 90 days probation as part of a plea agreement.

Johnson is Tennessee’s top tackler and second in the SEC with 101.
