Coach Brian Kelly said he was not sure if the injured shoulder affected Golson during the game, but Golson did play the entire contest. He completed 21-of-40 passes for 287 yards with three touchdowns. Golson also threw an interception and fumbled once. Golson has had at least one interception in each of his last seven games.
The Irish have lost three of their last four games and likely will be out of the College Football Playoff rankings this week.
Kelly said he was not sure whether Golson would miss any time because of the injury, but noted during his Sunday teleconference that Golson said he could throw Sunday if he needed to.
"I don't know," Kelly said. "I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him about it. There were certainly a couple of throws when he first did it where he put the ball into the ground. You could see that it affected him then. He said he was fine after that but obviously we missed some throws, especially in overtime. But he said it didn't affect him."
Golson’s injury will only make the calls for backup Malik Zaire that much louder. Golson and Zaire competed for the starting role in the spring before Golson emerged starter. However, Golson’s turnover issues have become a major frustration for Kelly and could open the quarterbacking competition again even if Golson is available to play.
