Alabama coach Nick Saban got a little testy during his weekly press conference on Monday and it wasn’t because of the media — it was because of the fans.
Saban was asked about the mistakes his team made during Saturday’s 14-13 win against Arkansas and while answering the question he also used the opportunity to rail against fans who were upset with the team’s win.
“It really, if you want to know the truth about it, pisses me off when I talk to people that have this expectation like they’re disappointed that we only won the game 14-13 and the way we played,” Saban said. “That’s frustrating. You want to talk about something that’s frustrating? That’s frustrating to me, for our players, who play with a lot of heart in the game.”
“Everybody’s got such a high expectation for what our team should be. I was just happy to see our players be happy about playing a game and winning,” Saban said.
Alabama’s play in a loss to Ole Miss and then against Arkansas has created a lot of angst for its fan base because many thought the Tide was a team that could compete for the spot in the College Football Playoff. That goal is still out there even with one loss, though it does get a little tougher with the way Ole Miss and Mississippi State are playing.
Still, Saban might need to calm down a bit. He created a program that was built to contend for championships and when it falls short of that goal, people are going to be upset.
