Louisville freshman backup quarterback Reggie Bonnafon will miss Saturday’s game at Florida International in order to attend his father’s funeral.
Wallace Bonnafon died Monday of heart failure.
"Reggie's a real family guy and had a real close relationship with Wallace, as our staff did,” coach Bobby Petrino told media on Monday. “I would ask that everyone's prayers and thoughts go to Reggie and his family as he works through this."
Bonnafon did not practice on Tuesday and Wednesday Petrino said the Louisville native had returned home to be with his family.
“It's a very tough situation for him and his family, something that caught him a little bit off guard,” Petrino said. “The plans are they're going to have the showing on Friday and the funeral on Saturday, so he's just going to focus on helping his mom and the rest of his family."
Bonnafon has played in the past two games this season. He has completed 14-of-20 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown.
