Wide receiver Brandon Carter removed from TCU roster

At Big 12 Media Days, head coach Gary Patterson made it clear that the career of wide receiver Brandon Carter at TCU was pretty much over. Now it appears to be official.

Per the Dallas Morning News, Carter’s name has been removed from the Horned Frogs’ official team roster. Carter was arrested for marijuana possession in April (the charges were eventually dismissed) and Patterson also alluded to poor grades when he said he believes it’s an appropriate time for the receiver and the program to part ways.

“He has a redshirt year and I think the best thing for him is to get a new start,” Patterson said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It's setting a precedent – you have to go to school.”

After his arrest, Carter sat out of spring practice to focus on academics, but was arrested during that time.

In his three seasons with the Horned Frogs, Carter record 90 receptions for 1,312 yards and nine touchdowns. His sophomore campaign in 2012 was his best with the program when he caught 36 passes for 590 yards and six touchdowns.

A member of TCU’s 2011 recruiting class, Carter was rated by Rivals as a three-star recruit. He committed to TCU over offers from Oklahoma, Minnesota, Duke and Wake Forest.

TCU’s season opens on August 30 at home against Samford. The team will report for preseason camp on Sunday.
