Mississippi State wide receiver De’Runnya Wilson was one of four men arrested Friday night in Covington County, Ala., for marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to WSFA 12, Wilson and three others were pulled over for a traffic stop on Highway 84. River Falls (Ala.) Police Chief Greg Jackson said the group was traveling in a Jeep and was pulled over for speeding. Per the Clarion Ledger, the Keep was pulled over “for going 59 miles per hour in a 45 mile an hour speed zone in the rain.”
Officers reportedly smelled marijuana in the vehicle and Jackson said marijuana was found in the car. Additionally, the four men, who were reportedly “traveling to a friend’s 21st birthday party” admitted “they couldn’t pass a drug test.”
The 20-year-old Wilson, who was released on $2,500 bond, led the Bulldogs in receiving as a sophomore in 2014 with 47 catches for 680 yards and nine touchdowns. Wilson also caught 26 balls for 351 yards and three touchdowns as a true freshman in 2013.
Mississippi State spokesperson Bill Martin told the Clarion Ledger that the program is “aware of the matter.”
“We are getting more details and will handle it appropriately,” Martin said.
Mississippi State is scheduled to begin spring practice on Wednesday.
