Does Oregon have serious FBS competition for the services of Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams?
Adams, a star quarterback at the FCS level, is eligible to transfer and play immediately for a fifth season as a graduate transfer. The 2014 runners-up want his services if he decides to leave EWU, and according to his high school coach, so do UCLA and Texas.
"They both want him," Dean Herrington told OregonLive.com.
At Oregon, Adams would be battling to replace Heisman-winner Marcus Mariota. At UCLA, he'd take on backup Jerry Neuheisel for the right to succeed Brett Hundley. UCLA also has five-star recruit Josh Rosen, who was rated as the top pro-style QB in the class of 2015 by Rivals.
Texas would likely have the clearest road to the starting position. While 2014 starter Tyrone Swoopes returns for 2015, he wasn't incredibly successful. Adams, who has thrown for over 10,000 yards and 100 touchdowns in three seasons at EWU, would have a good chance of starting right away. Texas also signed a four-star QB, Kai Locksley, on Wednesday.
However, Herrington told OregonLive.com that he thinks Oregon is still the frontrunner if Adams decides to transfer.
