Gary Andersen’s new staff at Oregon State is taking shape.
Andersen announced Sunday that Colorado State offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin will take the same position on his staff.
Baldwin served as Colorado State’s interim head coach in a Las Vegas Bowl loss to Utah after former CSU head coach Jim McElwain accepted the head-coaching job at Florida. Baldwin led the 18th-best offense in the country (480.9 yards per game) this season as the Rams won 10 games. The Rams were eighth nationally in passing offense, led by quarterback Garrett Grayson, who threw for 4,006 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Before coaching at Colorado State for the past three seasons, Baldwin was Andersen’s offensive coordinator at Utah State from 2009-2011. He also had stints as an assistant at Cincinnati, Baylor, Michigan State and New Mexico. Additionally, he was a head coach at San Jose State, Cal State Northridge, Santa Rosa Junior College and Santa Barbara Junior College.
In addition to Baldwin, Andersen announced that Kevin McGiven will serve as his quarterbacks coach with the Beavers. McGiven was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Utah State for the past two seasons and previously coached under Andersen at USU as quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach in 2009.
McGiven has also coached at Montana State, Memphis, Weber State, Southern Utah, BYU and Louisiana Tech.
“Dave and Kevin bring experience and continuity to our staff and offense,” Andersen said. “I know what to expect from these two as coaches and what to expect from our offense. They absolutely fit our program and Oregon State University, and this is another great step for our future.”
Baldwin and McGiven join a staff that is almost complete. Andersen hired Kalani Sitake (defensive coordinator) and Ilaisa Tuiaki (linebackers coach) away from Utah, retained Brent Brennan as wide receivers coach, hired T.J. Woods and Chad Kauha’aha’a from Wisconsin to be offensive line and defensive line coaches, and plucked Derrick Odum from SMU to coach defensive backs.
Andersen left Wisconsin for Oregon State on Dec. 10 after two years with the Badgers. He previously was the head coach at Utah State from 2009-2012.
